Never heard of D&D Horno Among Thieves.

Forgotten Realms is the current default campaign setting for 5e, so it would make sense that any movies based on D&D would use this campaign setting if they don't specify one in the title.

The only thing I heard about it was from Clownfish that were angry that the writers said they purposefully emasculated the main male lead. Was the movie good?

Clownfish is just another outrage anti-woke YouTube channel. He and his wife are right-wing but love to pretend otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, rampaging wokeness is a real problem in America. However, most of the personalities who pretend to be fighting wokeness are actually GRIFTERS, (example: Jordan Peterson.) Either that or they are right-wingers, and anything and everything that are not right-wing enough is "woke" to them, (example: Matt Walsh.) Clownfish is a bit of both.

With that being said: in the DnD: Honor Among Thieves movie, the single most overpowered, more righteous, most honorable, most heroic, most "lawful good" character is a MAN... i.e., the Paladin. He is certainly not "emasculated". Feminists and woke justice warriors would likely consider his chivalry as the archetype of "toxic masculinity" that must be cancelled.

I have no idea who Clownfish is, but it doesn't sound like someone i would care to listen to. Edgin played by Chris Pine is more of a smooth talker and tactician, in the vein of Col John 'Hannibal" Smith of the A-Team. Edgin didn't wield a heavy weapon but he does some swinging and hitting, and he did cast a tome spell. He was leading from the front a few times so I'm not even sure what this Clown dude/dudette is talking about. Did he/she even watch the movie or is he/she some talking head text-to-speeching articles on YT?

In fact, I found Edgin's character more memorable compared to the the sorcerer and barbarian, but everyone had a chance to shine in this movie. It's not great especially since I could tell what was going to happen 70-80% of the time but it had laughs, brawls, creative problem-solving, some good dialogue and the obligatory CGI backgrounds/settings and creatures. I personally would give it an above average rating Oh just saw this after I posted my comment. Glad to know i suspected as much

I'm just glad that it finally hits the cinemas so I don't have to see that trailer again when I go to the movies.
All that "fun" looked so forced, it was really annoying.
I liked the living treasure chest and the scene with the five questions was nice, but the rest was just ... meh.

Anyway.

I saw an advanced screening of the movie on March 21. I enjoyed it enough that I went back to see it again on opening night (March 30, Thursday) in an IMAX Laser theater. I am glad I did because the first opening show was giving out freebies. I got these for free:

1. A mini poster. A lot of movies give out posters on opening nights, so another free movie poster is nothing to rave about.

2. A CLOTH MAP of Faerun. Now that is something new as a movie memorabilia. The last time I got a cloth map was from a boxed Ultima IX game in the 1990s. The DnD movie cloth map is about the size of a Ultima cloth map, and it was in a resealable clear plastic bag, so it is clean.

That's nice. I was thinking about a rewatch in an IMAX theatre. Lemme see if they're giving out freebies (most likely not though) too. *fingers crossed*

As for the movie:

A lot of people are saying the DnD movie is the "fantasy version of Guardians of the Galaxy". IMO, it felt closer to the 2017 Jumanji resequel (reboot + sequel) and the 2019 sequel to the resequel, Game Night, The Goonies, and The Princess Bride. The DnD movie has the same chaotic energy, hectic pacing, and witty bantering and snippy bickering among the main characters who were trying their hardest to work and survive together as a team. Of course, Guardians of the Galaxy has the same vibe as those movies as well.

So, if you enjoyed any of those movies, then you would enjoy DnD: Honor Among Thieves as well.

Though I also never heard of a movie called "Dungeons & Dragons: Horny among Thieves"...maybe one of these "special interest" movies that get sold behind the curtain in the back of the store?

I thought "Horno" sounded better than "Honro".

I watched it on Friday. I could count the others in the cinema on one hand, but.. Can't say there was ever a boring moment for those 2+ hours. Solid entertainment. I even chuckled a few times. It has a loveable cast with good chemistry, which gives it that feeling of adventure. I've played many of the Forgotten Realms games, and it was fun to see the references, but I think this movie would work well for someone not familiar with the setting too.

I haven't watched Guardians of the Galaxy or Jumanji, but I have seen it compared to LOTR/The Hobbit too, which I can agree on.
