Got Fixme Stick about two weeks past, and after removing four Malware that got by Viper and MS Malware "protection" it also wiped out both HDD, and changed format that prevented W-7 Pro from reinstalling. It wiped out all my Sys Images, and prevents me from re-installing 64 bit W-7. SO after two weeks of tweaking and jixting, I managed to find an ISO that allowed HOME version. SO I wanted to install an OLD game, Dungeon Siege. NOT HAPPENING. This is a MS game, that ran fine under XP, but no amt of Compat switches seem to work. It crashes on the splash screen. ANYone know a fix? or some DL that will make it run?
email removed per monitor note. Thnaks. PS: tried every single suggestion and none worked for me, W-7 Home on Alienware Aurora R-6 and about a TB of unused HDD. Will try the re-install as last resort.
PS> found a DS bundle earlier and NOW it is gone and NO response to search. jdm
YES it is that imoortant, I have all the original disks and bought this GOG because I really wanted to play the game.jdm

Is it the original Dungeon Siege or Legends of Aranna version ? Did you install latest patches ? It could be the games uses some copy protection like Securom/Safedisc that doesn't work on newer version of Windows, so you might have to try using a No-CD crack.

I tried BOTH Arana and the original DS, ONE and TWO. Give error msgs on all. Original software, not copies, and it ran fine on XP Pro.It has been couple of yrs since i loaded it, so it may NOT have ran on W-7 Pro, which is supposed to be backward compatable.
Thanks for reply. What is a no-CD crack

A no-cd crack is a bypass .exe to enable games working without the original disc. I've looked at the Steam store page and it does look like the game having some difficulty on modern machines. They recommends that you use the Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode.

Please take a second and remove your email address from your post.

It should never be posted like that in public. Too easy to scrape up by the bots and we know we have bots here.

Anyway a quick google suggests making changes directly to the program:

Have you tried those?

I've recently played Dungeon Siege 1 on my Windows 7 laptop and I'm fairly sure I used the tips from that thread to get it working (follow the directions given by Velimirius on the first page).

When you start the Dungeon Siege program if you get a pop-up saying "Program has known compatibility issues" just click on "Run Program".
If this is followed by another pop-up saying "Dungeon Siege Critical Error" just click on "OK" and the game will start.

Apart from that the game ran flawlessly for me on Windows 7 64-bit.
I have actually played and finished Dungeon Siege + LOA few weeks ago and I am just about to play the bonus pack "Return To Arhok" on my Windows 7 PC. I also recommend trying that Velimirus fix, the part with the drivers and TNL stuff. I hope you get it running. If you then get unstable framerate and screen flickering, run the game with a command "bltonly=true".

Also if you want to check out some of the old fan made maps and campaigns you can find them here: http://ds.gemsite.org/web/index.php/siegelets

Just to throw this out:

We've had recently a number of threads where it makes a difference if you're running the game on 32bit or 64bit.

Is it that much of an issue?

Seriously asking.

AH, yes. My rig is W-7 HOME, 64 bit, and that can make a diff....To bad MS is so arrogant to make a solution, in that it was thier game to start with. I see all these W-7 people saying it runs on thier rigs, and NOT on mine, but may be due to the FIXME stick that wiped out my HDD. HEY! maybe my Anti-virus....forgot about that.

Microsoft just makes it worse. I already mentioned it, Microsoft declared Securom and Safedisc copy protection a safety risk, so you can't play many ORIGINAL games anymore if you updated Windows 7, 8 or 10. This makes hundreds if not thousands of old games people legally bought unplayable on modern Windows without a No-CD crack that removes those copy protections. People think the game is just too old and give up, but they are just a victim of the DRM.

They shut down Game For Windows service and I'm not sure if you can play those game anymore. Probably the same will happen with the UWP games on the Windows Store in the future. That is why GOG and DRM free games are important.

Tried the original DS, and then LOA, and it appears the vidwo drivers are corrupt, giving the BSD, albeit tried various drivers with same result. FYI, Got four hours og tech service from MSDN, 3 techies, and they got the W-7/64 validated, and it appeared to be solved. WRONG. When booted , the rig goes BSD, then Safe Mode. Over 120 hrs so far and just can not get this fixed. DELL is NO HELP. Appears thier nVidia drivers for my integrated 580 is flaed, in that it crashes EVERY time I load it.

Sorry ti took so long to reply, BUT my rig crashed. VID card fryied. Got new MSI 1050ti and the game runs on W-7 64 AND32. Graphics are sharper than I remembered. Thanksfor all the suggestions. It appears the issue was the nVidia580 card that was crashing the rig. NO OTHER config ws needed. TY ALL.
