I see Duke Nukem Forever is currently 75% off at Steam, which is still not cheap enough for me, considering the unpalatable DRM of Steam.

I am still hopeful, that all the Duke's games will become available here again at GoG.

If anyone ever wants to petition the Publisher, I am only too happy to put my name on that list.
2k and Gearbox are already on GOG, so I'd imagine that the only thing keeping Duke Nukem 3D and Forever from being released here is their desire to add Galaxy support, for telemetry data. Unless something has changed recently, the only data a publisher can collect on their games being sold on GOG, is whatever GOG themselves make available by mailing them directly.

EDIT: Or am I horrible out of date on the current situation?

I too like Duke Nukem Forever, but mostly for the multiplayer and that would probably need to be ported to Galaxy first. I'm doubtful that Gearbox is keen to bother, given the poor ratings on the game.

I'd still buy it without multiplayer, if the Doctor Who Cloned Me DLC was included.
It's a fun game I have no idea why it got such a negative reception and reviews.

I reluctantly joined Steam a year or so ago. It's bad but it's not THAT bad and if you really want to try DK Forever I say go for it.

You can play everything in offline mode which is what I do. I don't remember the last time I actually logged into Steam. The client starts but because I have the default to Offline mode it does so without actually logging in and I don't need an internet connection.

I don't hold it against anyone who refuses to try it because Gabe is a 300 pound butthead, but desperate times call for desperate measures and Duke evidently hates GOG. :P

I'm not that desperate. My backlog of DRM free games is huge, so I will probably not have to worry about accepting any for of DRM for the next 200 years.

was announced and in development since 1997, constant changes in both the game and the engine.

People expected something really big and it was hyped as hell. Especially when this trailer showed up in 2001. It got us pumped.

DNF got released and......none of the happened from that trailer. No terminator (They KINDA are in Doctor Who Cloned Me), unfunny lines, health regen, 2 weapon limit (Althou they've released the patch which allowed you to have 4 but ya gotta enable it 1st from options and it's for single player only!).

tl;dr it became a disappointment

Edit: Oh yeah, and those things ya see in the trailer....None of that are in the game.

Of course you aren't you have a life! :D I was referring to the sad pathetic people like me. :P

There are other sad pathetic people like me, aren't there?

Hello?

Anyone?

Bueller?
It was a fun game overall, I liked the oscene and quirky stuff and the mix of gameplay elements.

People expected more from the game, but no game can live up expectations that become frantic. You'd think after such a long development time that people would have lower expectations of a game, instead of higher.

I don't think bad ratings have anything to do with not releasing the game DRM-free, on the contrary many developers seem to use GOG as a last resort. So I think it has more to do with what Gearbox' DRM-policy than it does ratings.

To be honest, I'd rather see the Borderlands games on GOG than Duke, but that's just my taste.

yeah, I was there, people are foolish if they let that trailer determine their expectations and then allow those expectations to influence their enjoyment of the game, especially with the case history of this game - I don't let that happen
It's not bad, it's just a boring, toothless, mediocre and below average experience. Even bad games like Blood 2 have something you can at least talk about. Everything DNF tried to do another FPS did and did better. Duke as a character is also getting tired and played out. Not even going to mention the mistrust created around it during development from people like George Broussard who put the game in a feature creep limbo.

Gameplay as dull as dishwater, a weapon limit on a Duke Nukem game, regenerating health forcing you to run and hide as a 90's inspired action hero, an uninspired art style, unfunny jokes, overly linear map design... Never again. Sometimes I think boring games are actually worse than plain bad games.

Because their target audience for such titles avoids steam and thus never played it :P

I agree. I think it's mostly saltiness people developed waiting so long for it to come out, and for others via osmosis.
Kinda offtop, but still.
