The humor is considered vulgar and unfunny to certain groups of people, and I've heard Duke called a misogynist. Can a video game character be a misogynist? I don't know, but I'd like to find out.

Duke is behind his time. He really doesn't fit into current events. That's a large part of the reason the game did so poorly, plus, people like to bandwagon. It started getting bad reviews from fans of the series who had waited 10+ years, and then it snowballed.

Well, he's misogynistic, but it's really straightforward and not (like The Witcher series) intended to encourage such mentality or reward it for any reason, it's just part of a very 1-dimensional beefcake character feeding into his own stereotype. It's not okay to be like that, but I don't think the game tries to make it be? I suppose there is something to be said for character creators to create characters that set good examples of how to be (objectification of women IS a huge issue), but

It's all about delivery and mentality behind the delivery. Maybe my brain parses things it shouldn't, I'm not sure. Will reflect more. There probably are issues involved with it perpetuating the mentality, I forget sometimes being so far removed from culture how brainless some people are that they see something in media and just think it is okay to replicate because they saw it being done in something fictional. UGH, people need better parents!

I already have a Steam account and a bunch of Steam games, and unless I get them dirt cheap, I am not keen to get any more, especially if I then have to buy it again on GOG later, when it does eventually become available.

For me, this is not just about Duke Nukem Forever, but the whole series. And it is also about full control of the games, that I REALLY OWN ... not pretend that I own. If I can't easily do whatever I want with them whenever, then really, I am not prepared to spend much on them .... plenty more out there, more deserving of my money.

P.S. And because i am indeed a Good Old Gamer, I do have boxed editions of many of the games I have bought updated versions of from GOG, including some Duke Nukem. I am talking the large boxes, not DVD case size ones. So while I don't mind paying a second time to get DRM free and updated versions, I balk at doing a 3rd purchase because I foolishly used Steam second.
