Players trying to launch Tron: Evolution are now met with a message telling them that the 'serial key has expired'. This applies to the retail version as well as the Steam version which is delisted from the store. Players who previously bought the game from Steam cannot play the game., and are met with message "Activation failed". The cause of this problem appears to be Disney not renewing their 'subscription' to the SecuROM activation system for this game. This means that even existing owners of the delisted game cannot play it for the foreseeable future. User SillyWalk gives us this update from SecuROM. They simply confirm that players who previously bought the game from Steam cannot play the game anymore. And finally, user raidebaron received this message from Disney Games & Apps Support:

Not suprised. Thing is disney have their money, so it doesn’t matter. I am suprised they didn’t just say wait for the remaster and buy it again. The problem doesn’t lie with the publisher though, it lies with the user. Those people who continue to pile money into these things allows publishers todo what they like without care. So blame the users, if they all decided, right we are not going to buy anything with drm in then drm would vanish overnight, but they won’t, so will continue to get FCK’d over, their fault.

And this is why bundling games with a remote killswitch that could be activated at any moment is a very bad idea.

It's both, but you're right. The problem is that most people are weak-minded and easily manipulated by media/peer pressure. Using the Scheme client is just "what everyone does."

Also, I wonder what the pro-Scheme response would look like to this topic. Probably, "eh, not that great a game anyway, no big deal" or "I'm sure they'll fix it" (missing the point).

One thing's for sure, no one will be able to use the "BBBBBBBut Gaban 'said' that we would be able to keep all our games even if Scheme went offline forever".

The nice thing to do would be to release a patch that removed the DRM like a few companies have done years after their game's release. Thing is, most do not bother or want to sell a remake. My guess is there will not be a patch but please do surprise me in a good way.

Do what you have to do to play "your" game because the companies already got your money so why should they care.

While I do agree that many users are to blame, a large number of them are just ignorant, naive and all too trusting ... and really just not savvy enough. So you gotta lay most of the blame at the door of the publisher who sets the scenario up, they are the ones controlling the show, taking advantage, stealing people's money under false pretenses.

Anyway, some of us here can just play TRON 2.0, anywhere any place anytime, and smile at the lack of DRM. It is reputably the better game anyway.

I'm sorry for them not being able to play anymore but they voided they right to complain about that the moment they threw money at exclusive hogs & online drm services like steam, epic, ubi, origin and whatnot.

Just hear Yong Yea talking about it it's a pretty glorious smackdown for Steam users. They don't even have a thing to say to defend Steam with this bullshittery. I hope someone can use this as a base for a lawsuit and turn it into a media circus so I can keep laughing at those DRM worshippers.

This thread is a right little circle jerk isn't it. A bit sad to see the game go this way, it's pretty good for what it is. Shame to see such nasty attitudes in here though. Not like I'm surprised. Lets all worship GOG and see who cums first!

Sad to see it go from official channels due to dated DRM? Definitely. Does it mean the game is lost for good? Absolutely not. Thankfully, there are always torrents for cases like this.

But this at least shows to the masses the core of the problem that is DRM. Without such practical examples, there would be no way to prove how much does it actually suck.

Nobody who got hit by this should have any hard feelings about just torrenting the game if they bought it before. It would be the first thing I'd do if something like this happened for a game I have on Steam or any other DRM platform for that matter.

I have games on Steam, Origin and also free games from Epic, not just GOG. I am not a die-hard GOG only fanatic. But they are the only one who never gave me a reason to torrent a game I've already bought once, which can't be said about the others.
