A very popular role-playing game from Instant Kingdom is getting a formidable content injection today. Apart from the new characters, quests, items, and skills, Driftmoon also receives a massive graphics and interface upgrade, as well as some small bugfixes.

As a result, the title now becomes known as Driftmoon Enhanced Edition and receives a 50% discount on GOG.COM, lasting until 25th May, 1 PM UTC.
Thank you for the update. Can't wait to play this game again.

ville.monkkonen: That's a great idea! We'll ask about it.
Hi! I purchased Driftmoon directly from your website all those many years ago. If I download the DRM-free installer from my Driftmoon Owner's Page, will that now be the Enhanced Edition?

takezodunmer2005: Well this sucks, my saves were nuked and you cannot control the BLASTING music/sound via settings... I hope I backed up my saves.

EDIT: I did, but curiously enough, the original game saves are untouched, just that the game points to a new save directory; I suppose that means I'll have to start all over again!
Try copying your saves across? Or if that doesn't work just finish the game with the old version.
Very cool! Driftmoon was great way back when.

Tried copying the saves over; no dice, you have to start a new game, this is why it's vital that people are allowed to have both versions! I was lucky that I was able to save the original exe file, but the same cannot be said for others!

Leroux: I can't say I really understand what you're talking about, but why would that mean you have to start over? Can't you just move your savegames to the new directory?
The save games are being saved to 2 different save locations, so that means that they're using different games so you have to start a new game with the updated version... They should at least allow for the original game for those that have never finished the original.

Did this version lose mod support? (I don't see anything mod-related on the main menu, unlike how it used to look.) I know there were never many Driftmoon mods, so I suppose if there were any problems maintaining backwards compatibility it's not surprising support's gone.

I see https://www.instantkingdom.com/mods/ still exists.

Some replies to your questions:
1. I've asked about having the old version downloadable too. I really love GOG because they've always been so friendly about requests from their developers and customers, but we'll just have to wait and see.
2. The so called vanilla version saved games are not compatible with the Enchanted version. We couldn't maintain compatibility with so many changes, and we figured most would probably want to start a new playthrough.
3. If you've bought directly from us, we sent you Steam keys back in 2014. If you've misplaced yours, no worries, just mail me at ville@instantkingdom.com
4. Unfortunately we couldn't include the mods with this release, they would have required extensive changes.
5. You should be able to control the music volume through the ingame settings menu.
6. As for the soundtrack, I love the soundtrack, and we've included the original unaltered versions on this new Enchanted Edition. Our musician has completely vanished from the face of the internet, so it's not for sale anymore. Please don't try to track him down, I suspect he values his privacy. (Edit: To clarify, we've been looking for him real hard, but no luck, that's why we think he really wants to stay off the internet. Maybe he's composing a new masterpiece.)

Was that all? If I missed your question, please post it again.

I'm so happy that GOG takes care of me with updates. Driftmoon Enchanted Edition looks great, I will have to try it soon. I'm one that has had it in my library for a while but never started it (too many good choices... :-) so the save-game issue is no big deal for me. I hope those with a lot of time in the game can still access the old game program.

Very good also to see the developer responding so quickly. That shows commitment and care, and makes me want to play the game even more.

First off, thanks a lot for being such an awesome, open and friendly developer! :)

Did you also give out GOG keys back then? Because I bought it directly on your website, too, but I also have seem to have it on GOG as well. Or did I get it through GOG Connect? Hm ...

Just a heads up that a GOG user asking about the DRM-free version bought directly from your website will likely not be happy with a Steam key as replacement (there is some aversity against clients in the GOG community, due to, but also independently of, DRM).

I agree, it would be lovely to give out GOG keys, but at least back in 2013 it was not allowed, and I'm not sure it is even now. I guess Steam wants to be everyone's default platform (they do bear the download costs but don't charge devs to give out keys), and GOG prefers to have it their own way. Can't comment on their strategies, which differ in other areas greatly too. But as a loyal GOG customer too, I'd prefer to have my other games here as well.

I think I got carried away there, to make a long story short, we'd love to sell GOG keys for Driftmoon instead of Steam keys, but can't. But your point is well taken, and we will make a DRM free version available on our own site too.

Great! I'm sure your direct customers without a Steam account will be very appreciative of it, thanks. :)

Driftmoon +enchanted+ Edition
Strange, there's no "updated" tag on the game's card in my game collection at the web interface.

Hey, wait a minute - there's no "updated" tag in my game collection at the web interface, and the last time I downloaded updates was like 4-6 weeks ago. Have there been no updates for over a month, or is this another, ehm, nudge for the customers to start using Galaxy?

Ever since the pandemic started (or maybe even before) there have been no update flags. But the games have been regularly updated. You can follow the updates on this thread:
