I know what it is (or at least I suspect) but I'd never heard of the game til you first mentioned it.

As for the 80s, I was playing Ultima IV, Wizardry (Proving Grounds & Werdna), Lode Runner, Wings Of Fury, Dungeon Master, and a bunch of Atari crap, I expect.

It's not Dungeon Keeper, I've never played it. I'll keep fielding guesses til life drags me away.

Maybe Battle Arena Toshinden? And since Jill of the Jungle seemed like a decent guess to me, maybe that not-so-official sequel Vinyl Goddess from Mars? (although I don't remember whether that one included a whip)

According to my friend (I've sent him your pictures) it's Streets of Rage. He was also very impressed by your drawing talent. He recognized Electra and Max.

Yeah, it's a bit like cheating but I think asking your real life friend is (marginally) better than asking google ;) And fighting games are just not my cup of tea ;)
