CharlesGrey: Right, given that most users here like to keep local back-ups of their games collection ( kinda the point of DRM-free games ), I'm sure everyone would be absolutely ecstatic about even more redundant file deadweight on their HDDs.

Primo_Victoria: I keep backups of my games so I can install them and play them anywhere, so having all the necessary bits is pretty important to me.
If you're capable of creating back-ups of your games installers, you're capable of downloading and keeping all the other important software and drivers. Certainly a lot more efficient than bundling duplicates with every single game installer.

I can see how this would make sense for more exotic files and emulators required by some games, but we're talking about Direct X here, which is required by just about any game. Chances are, if you're a gamer, you already have the relevant files on your system. And even if not they're easily found, either directly from MS, or any number of other download sites.

I think the game should come with all the prerequisites, in case some files are not available any more. That's just more reasonable and responsible. Steam understood that a long time ago.
Direct X is a prereg for the system it self and its not up to gog to store copies of it

You're mistaken about what you're referring to.
avatar
phaolo: If they managed to miss even that, it means that they also missed the entire game.
At that point, Gog will have to send someone to the client's house to install everything. XD

Grargar: So, no guarantee at all. Got it.
Are you looking for an impossible 100% guarantee?
Then, even the opt-in included Galaxy is not enough..
What is your point exactly? O_o

avatar
paladin181: At that point do you think maybe... [..] the end user may just *gasp* not want galaxy installed? *DUN DUN DUHHHHHN*
>.> No, tthey probably just missed the purple bar, the blue button [..]
Hey, it's Gog's reasoning, not mine.. I was just suggesting a better compromise.

I'm glad that's all taken care of.

I know. I was playing along. ;) Sarcasm is incredibly hard to properly relate in a purely text medium.

That your proposed solution is worse than the current one.

Ok, I wasn't 100% sure :P

Ok, but you stated it like it was a fact, but it's just an opinion (without even a clear reason).
avatar
phaolo: (they should do the same for Galaxy)
avatar
Grargar: They already did... back when Witcher 3 was released.
I've owned Witcher 3 for some time, It played fine from the first hour. I think we are on the wrong course here.

Everyone seems to think I don't have Direct X, I have 64 games in my library, I built this computer and dozens of others. I've played games since 1996, Direct X is installed , Witcher 3 plays great, as do many other games. But when you "Successfully" install a game, I used Galaxy. It should at least make an effort to play. This one failed out of the box, it is really disappointing. I can fix it no doubt. I just didn't want to. No, I wanted to play the game. It was late, I'd had a long day and I wanted to play, not repair or play with software...
