Hi gogers, I need a recommendation, I want to purchase Dragon Age Origins and Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen, but only got enough money to purchase one, which one should I choose?
Dragon Age Origin
On the one hand, they're fairly different games, so it's hard to suggest one without knowing your preferences.

On the other hand, Dragon Age Origins is better.
They have a very different pace. If you have already played other Bioware games (Star Wars KotOR, Neverwinter Nights etc.), keep in mind that Dragon Age Origins is kind of similar.

Dragon's Dogma is more "actiony", is an open-world game (Dragon Age is like Baldur's gate, with a map as hub) and has some very nice dungeon designs. it's one of my favorite games from the last decade. If I had to vote, I'd choose DD.

But that depends on what do you expect from an RPG, I suggest watching some gameplay from both games (especially to watch their battle mechanics).

Like other's pointed out they are different type of games.
Dragon Age Origins has tactical turn by turn combat, Dragon's Dogma has real time action combat similar to
Risen or Gothic.
You could watch some youtube "Let's Plays" to get first hand impressions.
I own Dragon's Dogma, but haven't installed it yet. So, can't comment on it.

But Dragon Age: Origins, I have played it a few times.

- The story progresses through chapters, so some regions will be locked until you progress to the next chapter.
- There is a lot of freedom when it comes to exploration once you unlock those regions.
- Though visiting some areas early may be more beneficial than later, including areas from the DLC. A lot of extras in the DLCs.
- Choices you chars make can change some of the outcomes or story paths. Some choices will change the ending as well.
- If you complete the main quests and the side quests, including all the DLCs, it's easily 60+ hours.
- In my case, I probably invested 100+ hours. It takes a lot of time to carefully explore areas, read the in-game lore, take in the scenes and so much more. :)
- The combat mechanics for both melee, ranged and magic are fun. The never felt cumbersome to me.
- The skills were fairly easy to understand and use. Which skills and how you used them can determine how hard or easy a battle can be.
- You can even let the computer control the chars to a certain degree during combat. Works well for some skills/spells, but not all.
- I ended up micromanaging for best results. Good thing the combat mechanic is real time with the ability to pause any time.

There's probably a lot more I could add. As others have mentioned, other than the fact both games are RPG, I don't think you can compare them to each other too well.

I can say that Dragon Age: Origins is one of my all-time favorite pc games. The GOG version also includes the expansion and all DLCs as far as I know.
.
Oh, and did I forget to mention, the current price for DA:O is at an all-time low.

Not played a lot dragon dogma (just a few hours) but dragon age origins is a great game with some nice characters, if you like the old Bioware games i can only sugest you to try it a least once. If you like exploring and talking to everyone, you can last more than 100 hours on it, it's one of my personal favorite games.
