So as part of being a completionist I try to find the specials as well - and in chronological order. Have you seen this 9 minute special from February 1985? "A fix with Sontarans". Not exactly canon, but what the heck :)

Unfortunately, I'm very busy, but I'm still deep in season 1... Very interesting so far, scenaristically and technically.

Season 1 is 42 episodes and season 21 is 24 episodes. And season 22 is only 13 episodes. So in general the seasons become shorter and shorter over time, so no wonder I progress faster than you do.

the episodes also become longer the second season of six's tenure (season 22 ) had 45 min episodes
then they revert back to 25 min and become 45 again with the ninth

also just a warning 7 starts off as a buffoon in the worst serial ever ( time and the rani ) but he shakes off that image as time goes by but his first season ( season 24 ) is a bit of a trainwreck

and season 23 ( trial of a timelord ) is one overarching storyline

if i were id hunt down all the audiodrama's audio books books and comics

I bought the Doctor Who Audio Books Humble Bundle some time back and tried listening to it. It didn't really grab my attention. The same with some of the comic books from IDW. So you have set the completionist limit somewhere - so for me it is that I aim to see all Doctor Who video material. Seeing all meta-videos, e.g. behind the scenes shows, trailers, and other marketing material is not required (in my definition) either - although I have seen some. But I do want to see all the spin-offs, even if they are not official like the Australian K9 series from 2010.

And lucky me, I just won the Doctor Who Adventure game for Steam over at the GOG Gift Club. I am excited to play it. It got good reviews on Steam.

I just saw "Vengeance on Varos". Fine story. I like it a lot. One actor caught my attention - the one playing Meldak. This is Owen Teale in a role from 1985. I recognized him as Allister Thorne from Game of Thrones - but much younger of course. Funny. My screenshot of Dr Who.

all beit controversial for its violence and its quite a disturbing little story

That is what it makes it interesting. It is commentary on the violence in media and how it can be used to control people. So a dash of "1984" and a dash of "The Running Man". Very good.

Oh God, how I hate the Rani...so glad the character didn't return in the new series...

I just saw "The Mark and Rani". Pretty boring story - the only redeeming fact being the land mines that turned people into trees. Pretty hilarious.

Anyway, I don't see why you hate Rani that much. She is a boring character, yes, but no more boring that the Master. In fact, I rarely like the Master stories. It is always the same story about him wanting to kill the Doctor and rule the Universe. Gets pretty trivial after the n'th time. I, by far, prefer the stories that are actually original.

So far the stories since the 70'ties have had two standard formats. Either,

1. The Master comes and devices some scheme til kill the doctor and rule the universe. He usually get a chance to do so but blows it because he talks too much.

2. The Doctor arrives somewhere in the universe in danger. The locals good guys are hostile because he is an outsider until he slowly gains the confidence battling the external enemy; typical some alien species.

And sometimes a combination of the two...

So I like stories like "Vengeance on Varos" or "The Caves of Androzani" since they don't use any one of these templates.
