In Season 19 in "The Visitation" an alien blows up the sonic screwdriver with a ray gun. (Ha!) He mourns it has "an old friend". I have seen 4 episodes since then and it has not been used once so at least for a while he doesn't have one.

I've only seen the series from 2005 onwards. I would like to see the old shows too, but as far as I could tell when I briefly looked into it they're not easily available. And of course some of them are so unavailable that you'll actually need to take a TARDIS ride to back when they're originally broadcast.

97 of them are gone so you do need a tardis

Maighstir: If you find a T.A.R.D.I.S., please tape the episodes - or, even better, convince BBC of the time to sell you high-quality archival copies - and bring them back so that you can give them back to them and we can get them in modern digital formats.
But there are fan reconstructions made for all of the lost ones, usually a combination of audio taped from TV and of still photos from the set. Given that they are lost I think this is an acceptable substitute. I have seen them all. On a related note my favorite side character is Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart. It gave the classic series a little seriously that I think it needed.

JDelekto: Well, I was speaking of the *past* episodes. I started watching around the Pertwee era, however, I have to say that Tom Baker was my favorite of the Doctors I have seen. I just liked his odd sense of humor.
jacobmarner: But seriously, what's up with the his scarf? That is just silly. She misunderstood, and assumed she was supposed to use ALL the wool that had been brought to her. And so she designed that monster. Everybody was horrified by the unfortunate result, but still, they decided it was crazy anough for a mad gallifrean, so thes went along with it. Became iconic.
