I am still at the 5th doctor, Peter Davison. I think he is pretty good. Besides that my favorite so far is the third doctor Jon Pertwee. Tom Baker was too silly for my taste.

his first series ( season 7 ) is amazing one of the best seasons ever with each and ever story a winner ( if a bit long at times )
but after that the quality start to drop and for a lack of a better word it became campy


id rather watch throughton who is the most important doctor ever ( in my opinion ) he had to make the whole regeneration thing work
and had to convice everybody that he was indeed the doctor the same yet different
without him and his performance the series would have died

the 6th doctor is a bit uneven and he really doesnt come in to his own until the audio plays

In general it has taken quite some effort to get all the classic episodes.

Online the best place has been Hulu Plus, although that required me to buy a prepaid US mastercard and then use a service like unlocator.com to circumvent region locks. It is amazing how many hoops you have to go though to pay somebody money.

Unfortunately Hulu Plus only have about 70% of the episodes.

Then some I bought on DVD collections from Amazon, and yet others I could find online for free streaming - for instance many of the reconstructions are available at dailymotion.com.

But I have them at that is nice. :)

They have the new series. They only have very little of the classic series. There are ~600 episodes total and US Netflix has something like 80 episodes, all of which is also on Hulu.

Not to mention the Big Finish audio dramas. There are over two hundred (mostly about two hours each) in the main series alone, plus many other series (e.g. Eighth Doctor Adventures, Fourth Doctor Adventures, Companion Chronicles...), and on top of that the various spin-offs not featuring the Doctor (e.g. Gallifrey, Dalek Empire, UNIT). It's a vast quantity; I'm slowly working my way through them and I doubt I'll come close to listening to the lot in my lifetime.

I've watched the new series up until season 7 and I really got tired because of the title of the season fianle and it didn't reveal what I hoped it would.. :(

It's really great, I became rather obssesed when I first began to watch and what I really enjoyed is the wobbly logic regarding time travel. In conventional time travel fiction they go for a comedic effect or a serious one, either failing or succeeding (usually with the you can't change the past) but it's kind of boring. With the rules in Doctor Who universe sometimes it doesn't make sense and sometimes it does which makes it funny and logical (albeit abstract), I really enjoy that combo. Sadly, after a while most likely in season 6 of the new series the magic was lost.

In several ways, Doctor Who is the polar opposite of Star Trek. No military structure (just one guy, out of control, with sometimes direct antimilitarist reflexes), and no lore nitpicking or twisted rationalisation. Rule of cool (often Rule of Cheese) tramples everything.

Pure easy-goingness.

When I saw all the early black & white episodes it was really an ordeal. They were really bad and toe twitching. In particular "The Web Planet" story arc from Season 2 has so bad that I have no words for it.
