I hoped Missy would turn out to be Rani. But then again, I hoped she would turn out to be pretty much anyone but the Master. I still hope against reason that it will be somehow retconned. I have this perfect scene in my head, when during the Doctor's next confrontation with Missy another TARDIS arrives in the midst of all the chaos, Charles Dance comes out and says "Really Doctor? You truly believed her to be me? As for you, young lady >shoots Missy with what appears to be a gun torn from a Dalek< that is for using my name in vain".

Looking back, the Sontarans are I my favorite villain race. They are cloned and part of big war with millions of soldiers yet we usually only meet a few at the time. And these few are usually quite formidable opponents - and quite intelligent. For instance, in "The Time Warrior" a Sontaran scout is considered a god by the medieval locals. I enjoyed seeing them again in "The Two Doctors". I hope they will appear more in later episodes.

Seriously! The writer who created the character owns the copyright and simply used licensed for a completely separate programme. Actually, the same thing nearly happened with the Daleks. Whenever they appear, the original writer gets a credit and he also tried to make a programme (in the US, I think) about the Daleks.

Yeah, the fact that you even brought this up is a bit of a spoiler...
I was talking about back in the 60s when he was still alive and did own the copyright. This news story is about a dubious claim made by a publishing company who had publishing rights back in the 60s. The BBC still gives Terry Nation a credit when the Daleks appear though.
I wouldn't even call it an unofficial spinoff... it's not really got much to do with Doctor Who at all IMO.

Also, we got the games for free in the UK because they were commissioned by the BBC. What I played of the first one was absolutely awful and not really an adventure game. Disappointing, as Charles Cecil (of Broken Sword fame) was in charge of them. Of course, he was also in charge of BS3 and that was full of box pushing 'puzzles' and bad stealth, so...

Well it contains one of the same characters - so not a spin-off, but I do think that I, as a completionist, should include it. And I read that it hints about Doctor Who several times without actually saying it.

Meh, it's as related as you want it to be. So officially it has nothing to do with Doctor Who, but it does supposedly make veiled references at some points. To me that doesn't make it a proper spinoff... more on the level of a fanfic but to each their own.

I just completed season 23 and have seen a few episodes of season 24, including "Time and the Rani".

I agree this is a pretty lame story, but I still don't get why you hate Rani that much. Yes she is cheesy, but no more than The Master. In fact I generally hate episodes with the Master; they are so repetitive. So I just consider the Rani to be female version of the Master.

Speaking of lame, I think Mel is probably the most annoying and lame companion so far. She has this squeaky voice and generally are claimed to be intelligent but keeps saying stupid things. I miss Romana or even Leela. Jo, Liz and Zoe were cool too. But with Mel they hit rock bottom.

So that was season 24, and I have now started season 25.

The highlight of Season 24 was that Mel left the doctor and that Ace joined him. Ace is a pretty cool character. Strong in spirit and a lot of energy. She knows about explosives and often have a stash of it. She is rebellious and insists on called the Doctor, "Professor" although he hates it.

All in all I think season 24 was good (except Time and the Rani). I like McCoy as the new doctor. Paradise Towers and Dragonfire was particular enjoyable.
