skeletonbow: https://twitter.com/gameloadingtv/status/573300596825980928 Unconfirmed rumour of course, but if true suggests that GOG might wind down the movies section of the site.
Matruchus: So gog is giving up on movies. That's a first.
Wouldn't surprise me, and could very well be a smart decision.
I don't know the numbers obviously... but my take is that gog tries to ascend to a general digital distribution platform. Which is a nice ambition to have. However it started as a game store, and still is mostly. Most of the movies you can get here, are imo dreadful, and I can't think of a single title in the library I would buy (also the prices are imo pretty high). As an indie movie (that can't get on any major streaming service (netflix, amazon, hulu, etc. ... ) / or get a good deal for it) it might be better to monetize via video sharing portals like vimeo and youtube.
Any "major" production is going to wind up with the big players in video streaming. I don't see how gog could really compete there.
Plus yeah we still have the old licensing problems, where tv and movie licenses are sold for each region/country.
