I meant they had a bundle sale on the SEGA classics back in 2012, which is why I bought those. I assumed you did the same thing at the time.

No worries, getting Gunstar Heroes and both Streets of Rage games was worth it.

The problem with this is, that most physical games released in recent years require online activation (mostly Steam, some Origin, uPlay etc.)

sad. but not unexpected. I signed up for it in 2010. 29th of april 2010 to be exact and only got transartica from them.

thats the thing with those stores. There is bunch of them and I was unwilling to split my attention to even more. I barely use origin for example and i owe two dozen of games over there. Dotemu never stood a change with GOG.

This could have happen the other way of course. GOG could have been closing now and DotEmu would have been the third PC digital game store.

I never used them but i'd like to say thanks. It finally got me off my ass and made me make the start of backing up my 300 odd GOG games. (Which ive been putting off for years.)

This makes me wonder... Will the same thing happen to GOG or Steam, one day? I hope not.

GOG way more likely than Steam because Steam is king, and neither are very likely for now I'd say. But the point of GOG is that you can back-up your games, so better safe than sorry.

This is why I like supporting DRM-free as much as possible, even if the store goes down at least I still have my games backed up. It is a shame this store is going though, wish I could buy a few more games from them. :(

It's a shame, there is no real way to back up your Steam games.

And there is another big problem, there are people whose libraries have more than 1000 games, How would they do to download them all in such a short time?, And still do a backup of them, there are games like wolfensten the new order weighs around 40 gb. : /

It'll happen eventually. Sun is gonna explode some day. If you're around at that time I'll imagine you will have a lot more to worry about than backing up your games though.

You may already be aware of this, but for GOG there's gogrepo.py.

For huge games, I guess one would just have to prioritize level of importance.

On the topic of DotEmu's SEGA game emulations, the controls feel delayed or off or something (like hard to control mid-air when jumping, in Kid Chameleon); I guess that's par the course for DotEmu since many others have complained about this issue with their games, iirc.

It would be better if most people weren't so freaking lazy, and downloaded after purchasing each title.
