This is sad news, although it was coming for a long time. The store didn't get any new games, emails about DotEmu stopeed coming (including the close notification), and the store was down for "maintenance" for a long time last year.
Even though DotEmu wasn't a major store, it's still sad to see it go, because it's another loss for DRM-free distribution. And of course, DotEmu did have some titles which simply weren't available elsewhere, like Tony Tough and the Night of Roasted Moths.
I started using DotEmu as a protest against GOG fake shutdown back then, and at that time DotEmu was looking like a very good option. They even had Broken Sword remasters available long before GOG did. Sadly they coudln't improve their service or even keep the level they had. When you can't compete with better service or better prices, and there are only about 10 games you can't get elsewhere, that's not much to go with.
The happy ending of the story is, of course, that whoever bought anything from DotEmu will have those games for the rest of their lifetime, as they are DRM-free, so keeping few backups is enough.
Still, it would be nice if there was an option to transfer those games to some other service, even Steam, but guess that's not possible.
And while it's not really related, I think Desura/IndieRoyale was supposed to return in 2017 Q1, but so far there's no sign of that happening... or have I missed something?
