I am not sure when this problem started but at some point in the last few months, the keymapper in DOSbox has stopped working in my computer. Doesn't matter what game it is or whether I'm using a GOG distribution or my standalone DOSbox installation. I press CTRL+F1, and instead of getting the keymapper (like I used to) all I get is a blank screen. My joystick stopped working in DOSbox too, and I bet that the keymapper is as fault. I'm using the latest version of Windows 10 and all of my DOS games from GOG are up to date.

Do you happen to be on a laptop or have a multimedia keyboard, both with the 'Fn' additional key, where the standard F keys might also be mapped to functions like volume, switch video output and so on?

In that case, it could have been triggered by a BIOS update that turned the feature ON, or maybe you inadvertedly pressed Fn+Esc at some point, which on some keyboards toggle the functions keys to their alternate state

Nope, I am on a desktop. My keyboard does have media / extra function keys but they can be toggled on and off. I even tried remapping the keymapper key to Q from the .map file. I still got the same symptoms. Either a still image from the game or a blank screen in windowed mode.

a blank screen when you start the mapper could indicate an incompatibility between dosbox and your graphics card.
Did your video card drivers update between the working and broken state ?
The mapper itself is clearly working, as otherwise you couldn't type anything in dosbox.

That may be the root issue. I regularly update my Nvidia drivers and I definitely would have installed a few updates between now and the last time I played the game. I will try rolling back to something older and see what happens.

Sure enough, rolling back the driver allowed me to see the overlay again. Question now is what's the newest driver that won't cause the problem?
Does it work better if you run in a window?

That is a good question. I don't know the answer, I haven't updated my video card drivers in a while, as I don't have any new games that benefit from it.

I am 382.53 , which works. which number are you on ?
