On 26th August, 2022, I purchased Doom I Enhanced, Doom 64, Doom II + Master Levels, Final Doom, The Ultimate Doom, Doom II Enhanced and Doom 3: BFG Edition.

Yesterday I noticed that Doom 3 was added to my account on 28 Feb 2023, for free. Normally $99.99 (according to my order history)

I did not purchase the game.

Why did I get this game for free?

That's when GoG finally got the proper/best versions Doom 3 and RoE and it was given to all owners of Doom 3: BFG Edition. I believe it's now bundled in with the BFG edition for new sales too.

Basically, it's an older version using the Doom III engine rather than a hybrid Doom III engine with some Rage engine features. The original version has some cut content missing from BFG, a few extra environmental effects and EAX support. It's far superior to the 2012 re-release.
OK, thanks.

its not just that, there are level segments and enemy encounters outright removed from Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil in addition to unfixed bugs with the release version of BFG, bugs that are fixed in several BFG source ports like BFA Doom 3 BFG and CST Doom 3 BFG but they cannot restore the cut areas and encounters though CstDoom 3BFG does restore the "phasing" effect that Delta X had in ROE. but the OG version of Doom 3 is vastly superior and has more mod support.

Yep - I could have been clearer - I was listing cut content, environmental effects and EAX support as separate items rather than saying it was just environmental effects and EAX support.

I agree on the vast superiority of Original Doom 3 over the "remaster".

Yeah I still keep both around and I try to find solutions to the more fixable issues but for me using cstDoom 3 and cstDoom 3-BFG fixes alot of issues both game releases have, though BFA for Doom 3 BFG is another good choice, but thats me, I love games regardless of their flaws or flawed releases.

Doom 3 was, I think, one of the first in the ever growing trend of "remasters" that are inferior to the originals. Loved the original back in the day.
