ReynardFox: Really? This thing still needs online activation?

A games console. That requires Steam-like activation to even start using. I can understand at launch, maybe software isn't quite ready yet and the system needs to be out in the wild asap (Like Wii U) but this should not still happen on any revised models.

Why are people ok with this?
because all they want to do is... play games. *Gasp* Imagine that!

ReynardFox: Why are people ok with this?
Because the vast majority of people have internet connections and see connected devices as the norm.

Poverty is also the norm... and debt and fast food. Ignore the norm...

Norm = lowest common denominator, must focus on norm to maximise profit.

Yes because if you live in poverty, buying an XO is the first thing that comes on your mind.

Sounds like you're saying that not having an internet connection is better.
It also needs electricity to work!

Hex doesn't. Also, you could just have a small generator where you turn the handle (or get hamsters to do it).

If it keeps you out of being in debt... then yes... I could easily name off satellite, internet and phone services that cost $100 each per month. A huge number of people don't know how to handle their finances.

Imagine if those people were not part of their target market.

So my understanding is that you have nothing against connectivity in general and just have problems with the prices. In any case since most people will have an internet connection regardless of gaming, having that required for gaming will not faze them at all.

In general, no problem... The requirement for connectivity, yes i have a problem with it. I wouldn't say everyone has a internet connection regardless, actually probably most people don't have internet. Of course I'm referring to the whole of the humans as a species, not the whole of Americans or Europeans, etc, much like the majority of people are in poverty. But not only that since something currently like 40% of Americans live below the poverty line (which gets worse as each year a dollar means less but wages don't increase very well). There's millions of people who can get by on what they have minimally, and that's it. A $50 ticket can ruin their life.

I understand, but you were wondering why people in general have no problem with it, and the answer is that most people who buy games already have an internet connection regardless, and so having it required is not a problem for them.

Yes, poverty exists, but not having access to computer games is not the first thing you'd want to fix for the poor, and in fact giving them internet access would be much higher on the list.
