Good lord, don't get me started on the GOG different versions of the same game. It can be a nightmare to navigate and you need a spreadsheet just to buy a damn game. I wish GOG would simplify their versions but what can you do, right?

To be a little fair to GOG here it must also be said that in the past GOG sales rarely went above 50% and standard prices were 6 and 10 dollars so it was easier to figure out back then.

Maybe I'm just a greedy old crank but it did seem like game sales were much better 5-10 years ago on GOG, Steam, Gamersgate, etc.

GOG's recent-ish trend of utilizing the newsletter to give out "better" time-limited discounts is a nice offset but not quite a return to the "good old days".

The "click a picture, find a discount" thing, I personally do not care for. The "so you bought this game, here's games in the series that are on sale with a little bit more of a discount as a way of saying 'Thanks sucker, we got your money and now we want more of it!'" is a bit more palatable.

I hate those infinite editions for certain games. This only makes me confused about what is in fact the most complete version.

All I know is that it happens more and more often that I don't buy a game because there is such a mess of DLCs, Season Passes, "Complete" Editions and whathaveyous that I'm at a complete loss what I need to buy to get the full package.

Happened to me yesterday when browsing the catalogue. Ancestors Legacy has a Special Edition and a Complete Edition. I suppose the Complete Edition has everything, but who can really tell for sure at a glance?

Little Nightmares is even worse. You get the base game for 4.99. Then you have the season pass for another 4.99. Then there's three separate DLCs listed, which I suppose are included in the season pass. But are they really?

I wasn't going to take any chances, so I just bought Jazz Jackrabbit instead. :D

Yupp, it's confusing. GOG should handle the DLC/different edition stuff at least as well as steam. I mean I'm all for DRM free, but with all the competition from steam/epic etc I wish GOG would at least keep up in these things. I know it's not always possible (ie: paradox DLC mess), but I wish products here were at least on par with the ones sold elsewhere.

I just discovered that Steam for example has a Panzer Corps Gold bundle, with heavy discounts compared to the GOG version. And many games with lots of DLCs have that.

Also GOG used to have bundles where you'd pay only for the difference, now Steam implements that a lot better.

Scrooge: Those who want their games so badly should go there, then.

Charity Workers: Many won't go there, and some would rather not play games ever again.

Scrooge: If they choose to do so then they should do it and be quiet about it, and decrease the surplus protesting on the forums.

I had already bought the base game + most of the DLCs separately, and I wouldn't get any discount to "upgrade" to the Royal Edition, but instead I'd have to pay the full price for Royal Edition (including the base game + DLCs I already had on GOG), OR buy the missing DLCs separately (which still does cost quite much).
And that is why people should be patient or be prepared for a better deal/more DLC to come along if they buy early.

1. We often still get such extras with older games(unless they aren't available to Gog or allowed to be posted on site by the rights holders) and some newer games as well(also sometimes past releases years back didn't have all extras either for various reasons).

2. Most games do not cut out most(over 50%) of the game for such DLC....that is a slight exaggeration.

If you bought NWN Remastered Deluxe after release hoping that it has all the new modules, now there is a new version of NWN Deluxe (wirh a slightly higher price - but also had a newsletter discount of 85% off). On the other hand the new DLC, Tyrants of the Moonsea is only 15% off. All in all it would've been the same to buy the DLC or rebuy the whole NWN Deluxe during this sale. Which is imho unfair to those who already bought the supposedly "Complete" edition, which isn't complete anymore anyway. On steam this would be a "Bundle" and you would likely just pay a small diffference with the discount of the bundle.

Nonsense, I haven’t brought a single game this year which has had any goodies (apart from adding a dlc to nwn). Everything, including some manuals are now dlc. Most games have full content, well explain Paradox? Also, the number of games with per order dlc has increased, how can you have content for a game not finished yet?
The only extras we get now are galaxy components bloating the offline installers.

I'd attribute this to the shift in focus from decades old games where there is no further development, to new releases where content is still being added or there are competing listings in other stores.

I don't think developers would be happy with a model of same game base price, and free DLC that would otherwise be charged in steam.

I don't think customers would be happy with a model of paying a significantly higher price for the game than Steam for the promise of subsequent additional content that may or may not eventuate (and which may or may not be playable).

I don't think GOG would be happy to hold off listing games until development is finished, forcing everyone willing to buy the game as-is to purchase it elsewherre..

The shift in focus is probably a necessary evil for GOGs survival - I would doubt the demographic group of people interested in 30 year old games is growing. Unfortunately I don't have any alternatives to suggest.

The Deluxe is supposed to be "Complete" and is now, but if you bought the Deluxe 2 months ago, you have an incomplete "Deluxe"
