Thanks for replying so quickly and for trying, its not Albion, but that one looks interesting too.

The graphics in the demo were 3d/pre-rendered/artsy, in the style of Fallout/Planescape/Lionheart/Arcanum.

Whereas Albion seems to be pixel graphics in the style of Ultima/Wizardry/Dungeon Crawling games.

There was a Neverwinter Nights module that had the PC running around in a city with many waterfalls and fight the guards.

Edit: It might have been a fan remake of an older game, but i can't be sure since it's been many, many years since.

I've checked photos in Google for all the games you have listed, but they don't match what I remember.

I think it was running in Windows 95 or 98, and the graphics and style were similar to Arcanum, with a similar interface.

Early or mid 90s.

You had one character moving around and could talk to others. I remember the combat being like Arcanum and Lionheart (which came out many years later).

It was isometric pre-rendered, not 3D as Neverwinter Nights.

The thing that most comes to mind is the Game Over screen, which is as I described in my first post. None of the games listed seem to have this.

I also remember, but I could be wrong, that the interface showed the day and night cycle progressing as a clock or half-clock that rotates, and I remember it having an image of a moon.

My advice would be, to random buy old rpg's until you either have to conclude it is lost in time or hit the jackpot....

This advice is based on my random experience with Black Moon Chronicles, though, to be fair. I could not even remember the game any more, until i started playing. Straight back into a diaper experience.

I'll agree that Quest for Glory 5 is a good suggestion. I'll add another one though.

This doesn't perfectly match your description, but could it be Alien Logic: A Skyrealms of Jorune Adventure?

+ It was made in the 90s.
+ It has some isometric sections.
+ There are cat characters that you talk to.
+ It looks like there is some sort day/night cycle.
+ There are jungle environments.

- I don't see any waterfalls in the jungles.
- The actual gameplay/combat is sidescrolling.
- I don't see the all-important game over screen (unless the taunt only happens after losing specific fights).
- The day/night cycle does not appear to be real-time and there is not a day/night meter.
- I can't find a record of a demo being available for this game.

I will suggest a few things in order to aid in your search:

1. You may check out the games browser in MobyGames. There are a lot of filtering tools there that can help search by genre, platform, year, etc. Most of the game pages have screenshots which could help with identification.
2. There are also videos on YouTube which are titled things like "100 DOS games in 10 minutes" which have very short clips of games. Maybe you could find something buried in one of those videos.
3. I assume that you have already browsed GOG and confirmed that it's not already on the site somewhere?

Unfortunately, those games don't seem to match.

I've searched in the past, but I still haven't found a similar screenshot. It could be its not on sale in GOG or Steam.
