Pond86: Whilst the game was pirated a lot, that wasn't the reason as to why the other parts never got made.

Ritual were working on the next parts, but then MumboJumbo brought Ritual and halted production on it. I never understood why Mumbo brought Ritual, and still don't as Ritual made games like SiN, where as Mumbo makes puzzle games such as 7 Wonders and hidden adventures such as Samantha Swift.

Also here are the wishlist entries for Episode 1, should you want to vote for it:

Grimlock: Michael Russel (ex QA Manager at Ritual Entertainment) wrote a post in 2007 about why the game failed.

I leave it here because it could be an interesting read:

His blog have few more post with more information about SiN episodes if you want to explore it a bit.
Thanks for the read.
I wish Emergence was here
Finished it. Really liked it. I don't know how the early versions were, but this one was bugless and very polished (definitely so compared to original Sin). Pretty linear, which I like, and had secrets that actually required you to look around.

Nice humour. Pretty cool story (I wish the manual had a "previously on Sin..." section though). I liked the weapons. This is really more my style; 3 pretty balanced weapons with interesting secondary modes. Prefer this over games with a zillion weapons, most of them exotic that you never use and you end up using same weapon 90% of time anyway. Wouldn't have minded a 4th one though, maybe a rocket launcher type. Also, the game picked up on difficulty a lot once you reach the Tower and those commando machine guys. I played on medium difficulty without the dynamic adjustment.

Anyway, for the amount I paid on sale it had a pretty good length. I mean two more of those and you have a full length-game. I really would have loved for the story to finish. Money well spent.

Anime-BlackWolf: On the other hand the episodic structure killed the game.
I really disliked the episodic structure that many games were doing back in mid-2000s. I'm so happy that's one thing that didn't take off.

I really miss that game, I was not a fan of the episodic thing but man did that game make me enjoy the OST. The menu song was AMAZING! sounds like a bad ass james bond theme in club mode.

Anybody here know if Emergence could show up since the first SiN is here?

Since it is technically a total conversion of "Half-Life 2", completely made with Source-Engine, it is heavily tied to the steam store. How much copyright right lies with Ritual/MumboJumbo nobody nows. Maybe they own everything, maybe they own everything BUT the used Source-Engine code, which lies with Valve. Than a release outside Steam would be impossible.

On the other hand, the "game" is known for being incomplete. Even if it came here, who would buy it? I am a sucker for Miss Sinclaire (who is mostly missing in this episode...), so yeah, one copy sold, but most people would want the "rest" of the game, which does not exist.

See it this way. Would YOU buy "Half-Life 2" here, if the game ends with Freeman arriving at the resistance base, after the boat-ride, never to receive the rest of the game? If you are honest, "SiN Emergence" fells exactly like this situation unfortunately.

And yeah, the soundtrack rocks. A lot.

I bought it on Steam knowing fully well it's just the first chapter and unfinished. And even after completing it and knowing how it ends I feel it's money well spent.

People are still buying it on Steam and I'd imagine they'd buy it on GOG. Not as much as the number that would have bought it if it was a completed game, but still...

Thanks for the interesting read, which is vaguely what I recall from way back then.

It doesn't appear to me that the pirating can be attributed to its failure, especially as he says the game sold well, plus I expect the deal with MumboJumbo would still have gone ahead and impacted in exactly the same way. A lot of stuff when it comes to pirating is just guesswork anyway, so the usual worthless finger-pointing.

I don't recall hearing they had actually started work on Episode 2, which might be of value one day ... who knows what the future may bring in the games industry. Aside from that, some of something that is great, is better than nothing .... at least to me.

GameRager: Wikipedia often has missing information(They only allow news articles from some sources as proof to back stuff up, and not some others like company workers/those in the industry/related to the thing being talked about, and anyone can edit it) and other issues......also yeah it was leaked before release....it was big news back then IIRC.
Wikipedia is not everything, but I think it significant there isn't even a sniff about the piracy, especially having an impact. I have often seen piracy mentioned as an excuse, whether real or imagined impact .... hard to prove real.

Anyway, I certainly recall nothing about it, so any news in that regard wasn't that big.

1. Did you find all the extra levels/floors on the elevator part of the tower?

(You can jump off to floors the lifts don't reach)

2. I actually think Telltale did it right while they existed.....the episodic thing, that is.

I loved it as well. I'd leave the menu up just to listen and check out the pics of the characters.

I reached all the floors the elevators reached + floor 11 to which I jumped down. Any others?

*SPOILERS FOR HL2 AHEAD*

HL 2 had episodes as well. Once you reach the rocket base in Ep2 and finish it it ends on a cliffhanger....so it's similar to Sin Episodes as well in that regard.

True, but you can bet old minded execs/etc were wary after the leak/piracy when deciding to go forward.

Also I doubt they'd admit a leak happened in such cases to avoid bad PR(but maybe they would an d i'm wrong).

You can reach most other floors from the start of the lift section(where you are on side by side lifts with the view of the city outside). You need to ride them up/down to the floors you can get to and climb/jump up and down to the others(via using the beams near the lifts and other ledges). Once on them there's call buttons to get the lifts to the floor you're on to try the others the same way.

(Basically nearly any level/floor the lifts pass with elevator doors can be reached somehow, and the doors can usually be opened from inside the shaft via nearby panels iirc).

Also some floors have outside ledges outside on the ledge surrounding the building on some floors(even the normally unreached ones via using the lift controls).

OK, I might load my game and check out some of the other floors. As I said I reached floor 11 via jumping and entering from the shaft.

I also played the "secret" upside down level. Read how to reach it on the net though; didn't find it myself.

IIRC there are mostly ammo/etc pickups in small rooms but it's fun to do.

Also you can shoot generators in some areas and then hit the switches near them(activate them) to do stuff some times.

That was my favorite one, also if you find every secret you have a little surprise/joke in the final boss battle.
I have to say that it's nice to find more fans of the game :)

Yup, I got the final battle easter egg.

I had to get some help with some of the secrets, but found quite a few ones myself.
