I'm having a phase again where I'm buying more music and archiving my CDs on HDD and started wondering if anyone here is actually buying CDs anymore. While with PC games I've completely gone digital a long time ago I'm still buying physical media for almost everything else including music. At this point it's kinda crazy for me to buy CDs since even once I have them the first thing I do is rip the disc and listen to the music from my PC or my phone. And yet, I still completely refuse to buy a digital version if a CD of an album exists. I'm actually willing to pay more than twice the price the digital album costs for the CD.

How do you guys feel about this?

I prefer having a disk than storing my GOG games in a external harddrive (to make sure it last even longer I put it in a plastic close-up bag.

The same, but I can't explain it either. I don't buy any retail games anymore, but I still buy CDs instead of mp3s, only to rip them and listen to them on the PC or my mp3 player. I hardly use CD players anymore either, so .. yeah, weird.

But I don't often buy music albums, only when I'm totally convinced that I will like them from the first to the last song, and the main reason why I'm not even interested in buying the occasional retail game anymore is DRM and prices. I guess if CDs had heavy DRM on them or only gave you a code to download the music online, and if I'd buy as many music CDs as games and they would cost more than I was willing to pay for them, then I'd probably switch to buying mp3s online, too.

I often buy CDs of film soundtracks. In fact, now that our postal service is kinda working again, I want to order the Titan AE soundtrack, as well as the final Hobbit film's soundtrack

Still buy CD/DVD games from time to time.

I still buy plenty of CD's and Vinyl. MP3 is not a product.

I never buy music-CDs, because the music I usually listen to doesn't exist in that form at least not if you don't want to import them für 60€+ (some of them really cost that much).

I still buy physical versions of PC-games though, if I don't get them without DRM here.

I haven't actually bought music in over a decade. I mainly listen Spotify or net radios if I listen anything at all really.

Here are some of my latest disc purchases (they are dvds though, but they might as well have been cds because each only contains about 4 episodes). Unfortunately I only got to see about 3 or 4 episodes before my laptop's dvd drive stopped working.

Well for a start, that is a load of crap. Iv got 20 something year old cd's that work as well as they did when i got them. Also disc scratches only happen if you don't after them. iv got 3000 well used cd's and havent scratched one.

As far as vinyl goes, they cost more because you get more. More art, proper lyric sheets, booklets etc.

I do yes. In practice I mostly use ripped mp3s, but their sources are generally CDs I buy. Finding mp3s online is some sort of temporary measure, usually for physical albums I can't find here, and it doesn't make me feel like I really acquired the music. So, finding and buying the CD does always feel satisfactory, even when I already have access to the music.

I'm quite materialistic. I managed, through GOG, to accept the virtuality of videogames, but I still feel the need for dedicated objects when it comes to movies (dvd/bluray), books (paper) or music (CDs). I like seeing and touching objects. It takes room, but at least it occupies it nicely.

I prefer physical media for music. Plus I like to buy music from local bands at shows to support that scene.
