drewpants: While some of those issues are certainly eye-opening to say the least, I'd be surprised if there is any nation state that hasn't infringed on human rights laws in one way or another. ...

Trilarion: While this is probably true it tells not much about how intensive some nations violate the humans rights and other don't. I mean, surely there is a huge difference between Norway and Greenland on one side and nations like North Korea, China, Russia and to some extent even USA on the other side.

It's probably quite important to measure that quantitatively if possible.
I totally agree. I was really responding to the fact that to my mind, the OP was taking a fairly naive view towards the US - although it's not perfect by any means.

Interesting fact: you can travel from Norway to North Korea and only pass through one country.

Russia is only 50 miles from the U.S.

Less than that, I thought. The distance between little diomede and big diomede island is pretty small.

I was going by Wiki. They've been known to rank right up there with FoxNews in terms of accuracy. :P
I think "human rights" as understood today are overrated and in some ways a problem...they're also a fairly novel concept (as argued by Samuel Moyn in "The last utopia: human rights in history" the current understanding emerged only in the 1970s)...they shouldn't be beyond criticism.
That being said, the US does lock up an awful lot of people. I have no idea whether it's necessary (crime rates in the US from the 1960s until the 1990s were pretty bad), but that kind of mass incarceration does imply something unhealthy about US society.
Given that we have for-profit prisons and how we completely ignore the homeless, I'm going to say no. How you treat the "least" of your citizens kinda tells me where your head is at, really.

The United States has human rights and arguably more than other countries like the ones that have people arrested for "hate speech" since many "hate speech" is simply anything some pricks in the government do not like with examples being speaking out against gradual Islamic takeovers and against mass non-white immigration.

Also, the reason for GITMO is because nobody wants such Islamic filth in their own states. There were proposals to send them to California and reopen Alcatraz but the same politicians that whined about GITMO said "NO WAY" because it was their state that would be at risk of a terrorist attack to free such filth.

By the way, other countries like Germany turned down offers to hold the prisoners for us and the politicians of those countries bitched about GITMO.

As for Social Security, it is simply a pyramid scam and it would have been better had people put their money into bonds instead.

Among the other real human rights America has besides real freedom of speech includes the right of defense as demonstrated by how when people physically defend themselves against assailants and there is blatant evidence that shows they were in the right to do so, the government does not normally prosecute them unlike Denmark which punished a human for fighting off a would-be rapist with spray.

The only human rights in some of these countries in Europe have are for left-wing scum like the self-proclaimed anti-fascists (ANTIFA) and for third world non-white migrants and Islamists. There were rallies in England in which people held up signs that said "Kill All White People" and they were not arrested or ordered to stop inciting violence.

Once your reputation drops below zero, you lose any human rights.

How is it that so many people who don't qualify as humans are posting in the human rights thread? :P

Shit, Bradley, infinte9, and now ciomalau. I'd like to say they are un-evolved, but primates have way more love and intellect than these ass heads. :P

Well said. Great paraphrase from Bobby Kennedy (whether intentional or not), the 2nd sentence. Yeah from way back when we actually used to have leaders. Now they're more like "Lead Scammers".

Yeah and we have a Federal Reserve who intentionally prevents full employment, meanwhile we eliminate the social safety net and then wonder why we have so many homeless. Eh, guess we just figure those are just prisoners we haven't locked up yet....

Yeah we got plenty of problems, and human rights are debatable, and unfortunately more debatable than when I was growing up. But everybody's got problems right, I've only lived here so far in my life so I can't make direct comparisons if our problems or human rights are necessarily better/worse than anybody else's. And without direct experience, just depends who's opinion you choose to believe.
us gov is so much busy to care about and protect human rights in other countries, it just does not have the time to care about human rights for its own nation.
Nope. All humans here are shot on sight. As a matter of fact I'm typing this message as a ghost (hence the name).
