I figured I would do it while it's free but wait for the last possible minute, hoping that by then all the kinks had been worked out. With Directx 12 it would eventually be preferable or even required for the AAA new releases to have Windows 10.

The thing is: I really don't want to upgrade. Everything I hear about it just makes it sound worse and worse, such as all the current and older games with performance problems on it, and the constant spying it does on your PC that you can kinda disable but not really. I think I'll have to do it soon, better than delaying the inevitable and having to pay for it and it probably won't be cheap.

Do you ever intend to upgrade to Windows 10? I know the audience here, you'll probably say no. After all a lot of you are still using Windows XP. I guess I just want someone to reassure me either that Windows 10 is not so bad, or that I'll be perfectly fine never upgrading.

No. Win7 is enough for my current PC, softwares and games. If I buy a new PC, I may upgrade to 10.

I will leave it for the time being. Mint/Win8.1 (currently). Should be fine for the foreseeable future.

Upgraded my laptop when I received the option. Don't particularly mind it. Just don't want it on my desktop. I'd rather wait until more games actually make use of DX12.

I'm sure there's a lot of Win10 happy customers, but on a site where DRM free is a priority, the audience willing to accept a "compromised" OS will not be large and those willing to admit it even less. ;)

What I would suggest is finding a friend that has a new PC with Win10, and just testing it for yourself? As others pointed out it will come standard with most boxes... so someone around you probably is using it already.

No, because I'm more than content with win7, and I'm afraid of possible compatibility issues. If I ever get a new pc, then I'll probably check it out, but I'll definitely try to get win7 as well, so that I can revert to it if I'm not happy with win10.

I adopted it when it was early access tech build. I like it. Let me break down my opinion a little for you:

1. I am not overly paranoid about things like the OS phoning home in the background, adding ads to the lock screen which I can disable, etc. There are people for whom these are make-or-break issues, and I respect their opinions. I don't share those opinions.

2. I like new things. I am pretty happy getting a new OS every few years. Technology is moving ahead. I see no reason that my OS should stay the same for a decade.

3. I am more like most users - I don't really poke and prod the OS to see the limits of what it can do. I use it for gaming, internet browsing, keeping and organizing my own various files, and running office program type things. For all of this, it is just as good as 7 if not better in a few areas.

4. I don't get very upset by graphic design choices. So, the metro-style flat hard corner windows don't bother me, etc. Like I said, I like new things. I also know that the look will change over the years as tastes change. It will get better, it will get worse, it will get better again. I'm fine with it.

5. Windows 10 has caused me exactly zero problems.

I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 not too long ago. Honestly, it's not much different. All my apps and games that ran on Windows 8.1 run just fine on Windows 10. Of course I disabled all the "data collection" and file sharing settings. And I have a dual boot setup with Windows XP on a different drive, so I can run a lot of my old GOG and Steam games without issues.

If there's a dozen games that I want to play and require it, probably yes.
Otherwise I'll just wait for Windows 1080 or whatever the next version is going to be called.

Of course I will. I don't want to be one those sad little people demanding Microsoft support a long dead OS. So in a year or so I might upgrade.

What are you using now? Windows 7? If it is Windows 8.1, I'd say just go ahead and and upgrade to Windows 10, I personally don't see much point to remain in Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 10. Yes, Windows 8.1 is that bad.

Anyway, I was partly in the same boat as you, so I did upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 (so that my Windows 10 installation would get registered by Microsoft servers as a legit installation)... and after awhile I downgraded to Windows 7. Or actually I clean-installed Windows 7 back to there. I also created a Windows 10 USB installation media, in case I want to upgrade later.

I figure now I should be all set to upgrade to Windows 10 even after the free period is over, my Windows 10 installation is already registered and authenticated (just not in use at the moment). I also got to try out Windows 10 while I was there, it was pretty ok back then with some flaws (like back then the number of items on the Start menu was limited, ie. many of my installed GOG games wouldn't show up at all in the Start menu; hopefully they have already fixed this), and some games I couldn't get to work there (maybe GOG has fixed many of those).

Regardless whether I will ever upgrade that PC to Windows 10, I am sure I get to use it anyway when I buy my next PC (=laptop) in the coming years. It will have Windows 10, or newer, on it preloaded, nothing I can do about that. So the question it not whether I will use Windows 10, the question is only when.

If my computer dies or has to be reformatted, I'm slapping a variant of Linux on it, not using it enough for games or any protocols that require windows anymore; My gaming rig would be the only one with windows and it would be either XP or 7.

In short: no.

I have upgrade most of my PC's/Partitions some times ago, no issue with it, I have disabled all the telemetry/user experience/cloud non-sense, and everything works fine.

It's an improved/streamlined version of Windows 8/8.1 while being slightly faster/more responsive than 7.
