Personally i don't think that's the case. I have never uploaded a pirated GOG game on the internet

Most pirates will prefer to upload the Steam version and crack it.

If anything i am more likely to pirate something that isn't on GOG (e.g. Warcraft 3)

In his defense; the mod said make a new one: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/is_gog_a_cause_of_pirating/post121 ;)

On topic:

No, its stupid.
I don't understand that question. Why would GOG be a cause of piracy?

No.
Piracy has existed since the early days of mico-computer gaming, thats why there was on disk copy protection, stuff you had to read from the manual and enter it into the game etc.

Gaming Piracy will stay, regardless of DRM or DRM free, anyone who blames GOG for it is an idiot.

Steamy, cracked... uploads? Is that what's considered fashionable in those circles today? Oh my, I must have been away for quite some time - it was all eye patches, peg legs and bottles of rum for most pirates not long ago. Do they still hoist the Jolly Roger at least?
No, it reduces piracy, because people retain the right to run the software after purchase for infinity, which is a strong argument to good investment. But there are many cases of piracy, even some developers welcome it, like Wube - they refuse to reduce the price or accept regional pricing, which makes price stay very high - and ask to pirate their game instead, until one is ready to invest into license. Anyway, the cake always works better than the stick.
Games are the root cause of piracy. Ban all games!

Yes, it is. I believe that strongly and here's the proof:

Vythonaut: Yarr!
The only thing that proves is that GOG contain piracy...
No, and even if it did I wouldn't care tbh.
The fuck are you talking about :-D

InSaintMonoxide: I don't understand that question. Why would GOG be a cause of piracy?
Because they sell games like Monkey Island and Sid Meier's Pirates! This glorification of grog-swilling, olfactorily challenged, sea-faring outlaws must end. It's all fun and games until it's your swash that gets buckled and your sea dog that gets scurvy! Won't somebody think of the children?
No, pirates will crack anything short of always-online DRM. Even if people pirate DRM-free GOG versions of games (which I have no idea how much of that goes on), I seriously doubt they wouldn't be able to pirate the Steam versions of these games instead if the DRM-free version didn't exist. Again, unless these games came with some heinous always-online requirement, which for most games on GOG would be utterly ridiculous.
No, that's stupid, only stupid people would think that.

Which explains why I've encountered so many Steam exclusive white knights who believe it.
