Itch.io is pretty big in it's own way, as a hub for self publishing indie developers.

Obscure stores to me are Zoom, Fireflower, Playism and the hundreds of Steam resellers out there.

Last year I bought Steam codes for the original Prey and Call of Juarez The Cartel from some real weird store. It worked, but I wouldn't have been surprised if it didn't.

I doubt asking on Steam would prove anything, as it would be very subjective, so I still stand fully by what I wrote earlier.

The things I mentioned can give you a very objective picture.

It's a bit like asking a random bunch of Americans about Australia. Many of them have no clue where it even exists, some laughingly have even thought it might be another state of the USA. From what I have been told, that is all down to how insular their education was and America being their whole world. If you ask the rest of the world though, most know at least where Australia exists, and generally know a lot more. So to many Americans Australia would be obscure, but not to most of the world.

P.S. Certainly before the movie Crocodile Dundee it was that way with many Americans, and I have been told that both by Americans and those Aussies that have lived in the USA.

Definitely a major one, always is in the top 3 store among Steam and Epic, but nobody buy games on Epic store, they just redeem free games that probably never going to play.

The designation of "obscure" is somewhat arbitrary and subjective so there is and can be no objective conclusive answer to this question without a clear definition of obscure.

GOG is not relatively known, nor a remote secluded village, nor are they non-promiinent. For the latter as an example GOG.com sold the most copies of The Witcher 3, one of the best games of all time known and loved by gamers around the world. It's pretty hard to be "not prominent" or "obscure" when you sell the most copies of one of the most popular video games ever made.

And finally, GOG Is not constituting the unstressed vaowel or having it as it's value.

So by dictionary definition, I would say that GOG Is objectively not obscure. As they say, when in doubt, consult the dictionary! :)

yes , i would pay more for drm free like 10-15% , but getting inferior games with missing features/patches is not acceptable

GOG gets a mention everywhere. If you are any kind of serious gamer you would know about them, and that is above and beyond their major CDPR games. Game review sites all over the world mention GOG, Wikipedia mentions if a game is available at GOG. Many DEVs/PUBs mention their game is available at Steam or GOG. You'd have to be living in a bubble as a gamer not to know about GOG. Console only gamers could be excused maybe for not really knowing about them, though I am sure they would have friends who would mention them. Knowing and then buying at GOG might be a different matter.

In no way shape or form is GOG obscure. When you sell a lot of anything that immediately disqualifies you from being obscure. GOG is only small in a relative sense to Steam, and outside of that unreal comparison they are not small.

I also suspect that most customers at GOG, while liking DRM-Free, ultimately don't care that much about it, and also buy a lot of games at Steam etc. So GOG are only niche in a DRM-Free sense, not a store sense ... they are a well known store that sells games.
