GameRager: FWIW I find SOME(very few but still some) takeout pizza to be good, same with other fast food places. :)

DreamedArtist: I personally love Pizza hut and little cizars pizza in Ontario as all we have after that is pizza pizza and dominos and mamas pizza. and pizza nova.
I love little ceasars & sometimes Pizza Hut(the price and the taste are good enough for me usually & I like the origins of pizza hut how it started from small humble origins/etc) and am so so on Papa Johns(a us chain we also have).

I also have a few choice pizza places(non fast food) which are a bit better but cost more obviously.

I dunno why I like such fast food more sometimes than homemade versions....maybe i'm used to it? :|

You know there is only ONE good pizza place in the Keweenaw?!
ONE!

WTF!?
That reminds me of the scene in The Super(Joe Pesci) where Joe goes to the local store and asks why they have a ton of pork rind flavors but only one brand of peanut butter.

I'd never do it. I just don't get the "buy now get it later" thing. If I'm spending my hard-earned money there better be an immediate result.

RedRabbitRun: I could make this list 5 times as long. For many of us this isn't simply about pre-ordering a game we're looking forward to - it's about making it all-too bloody obvious that there's a market for excellent games that treat customers with respect.
What has any of that to do with pre-ordering? Will buying the game once it's out not be sending that message? Already you are making an assumption about the game's quality based only on marketing.

The only message you are actually sending now is "with enough hype people will buy anything, even unfinished games long before any reviews/first hand opinions are available".

Imo some people feel long lines at preorder events and other such things will send more of a message to those who do business differently than day one sales figures.
Sometimes I just want to say that I want this thing, please make it. You think a preorder doesn't say that?

If it's up for preorder, there shouldn't be any need to say that. They should already be committed to the idea to see it through that last bit.

This isn't exactly Kickstarter.

Yes, but the developer's financial situation during the development can have a big effect on the end result.

Did you know that Amnesia: The Dark Descent was almost canceled due to budget issues? I wonder how it would've gone if they had had no preorders. (Fwiw, I did preorder that game)

I see your point there, I was thinking of all those stupid AAA studio releases where they want their money before the review embargo is up.

Buying the game at launch (if you decide to) is great - no-one's saying you shouldn't.

Pre-ordering sends a louder message - and I was heavily inclined toward pre-ordering this game long before the most recent wave of hype. When I say it's about making noise - I'm not specifically talking about hyping up the game (even if that is an inseparable part of it). I'm saying that this shines a light on a company that's doing everything it can to exemplify pro-consumer business models - when so many others look like runaway trains going in directions that I personally despise.

If your only interest is in the game, then that's great. Wait until the game comes out and if you like what you see and hear about it, get it then.

If I implied that I'm making assumptions about the quality of the game (and I can see how what I wrote could be interpreted that way), then I could have articulated my point more accurately. I make no assumptions about the quality of the game - but I am willing to risk my money to lend some volume to the business model CD Projekt are championing.

Oh, *AND* I'm excited to get my hands on the game - but that alone wouldn't have been enough to get me to pre-order.

Look - could it all go pear-shaped before release? Sure. This is the most ambitious title CDPR have ever worked on - things can go wrong. But pre-ordering (for me) is not about the assumption that everything will be perfect - though CDPR's form over the last 12 years makes me think that my faith in them is well placed (and I was looking for a reason to throw a few more quid to GOG, as well).

Go with local places, rather than the big franchises, where available. We order from this place called Sarducci's (have for years) and it is awesome. When we're in Indonesia, we order at Six Senses or Mediterranean... none of these franchises like Pizza Hut or Papa Ron's.

EDIT: And yes, I know in the US it's Papa John's. Papa Ron's is an Indonesian knock-off chain.

As a rule I don't normally pre-order. I have however made an exception for CDPR with CP2077. They have proven time and time again to be the good guys in an industry where standard practice has now become to try exploit the customer as much as legally possible. For me, CDPR have earned my pre-order and I am more than happy to show my support even if I have to wait a year for the release and if it was the right thing to do I'd happily accept a delay in release.

As for the overall question...all you need to do is look at something like Star Citizen and that will tell you how many people are willing to pre-order. People are still willing to put money into that con of a game.

This is good advice, and I do so when able.....sometimes though the cheaper option is what I am able to afford, sadly.

(Also sometimes the quality is good for the price at said chains)

TBH locals here in Ontario Canada are way too over priced. for a personal pizza it's almost 24 to 30 dollars not kidding at all... that is why its like we stick with chain pizza due to prices or just make our own at home. one place I went to last week 4 hours away from my city had pan pizza wood baked and almost cost me around 19 for a small, A SMALL!.. I wish I was in Detroit, I head of the crazy pizza places they have as well as hot dog joints.

Sarducci's is CA$40 for a 32-piece rectangular pie (i.e. enough for six or seven people). It's not too crazy. I know some locals are crazy, though, especially when they don't have much competition.

And to avoid getting too OOT... I have seriously considered preordering Cyberpunk. I just don't have a computer that'll be able to run it.
