Currently, I live in asia and I'm really hesitant to buy anything from GOG because the price of everything is almost double the price than on steam.

Currently, a 20$ game is 1k where I live at but on steam they price it to about half that. the discounts that steam gives even deepen that inherent discount, which is why buying anything not below 50% discount here is basically almost buying the same game twice for me. making it really hard for me to buy anything here.

Am I just being greedy or is there merit to my question?

There's still a functional difference between GOG and Steam, but for the most part, do what's best for you. If you want to buy from GOG but can't justify the prices, either wait for big sales, or buy sparingly. Or start participating actively in the forums, and enter into game giveaways. I have to imagine you could get thousands of hours worth of gameplay out of game giveaways if you take the time to enter enough to eventually win some.

What part of the Philippines are you from, and do you know anyone who has a good recipe for lumpia and is willing to share it? I haven't been able to recapture the taste and that's some darn tasty food. You can keep your balut, though ;)

GOG have regional price.
Many games are much more cheaper at some specific regions.

But no, you will not get additional discount just because you live in Asia.

Almost all DOSBox games on Steam are DRM-free.
The only one benefit that GOG provide, is they configure DOSBox better.

For anyone who want to buy cheap and DRM-free old classics, Steam is a better choice.

I have over 1000 GOG games, but I no longer trust GOG.

I don't know if something has changed, but I bought Fallout New Vegas on Steam (for the full EU price) in Poland and couldn't play the game abroad. That was ages ago and I've left my old steam account to someone else since was useless for me. I think you should keep in mind, that some of your steam games may not work at all (despite the price you paid) if you traveling ; p

In my country, too, Steam offers way better prices than GOG, as GOG has no regional pricing here.
For example, in case of Witcher 3 GOTY edition the base prices are
On GOG - $49.99
on Steam - $14.61 [converted from INR]

Yet I buy from GOG almost exclusively. WHY?
1. DRM-Free. This is life saver. No need to be tied to a client. The Galaxy client is optional.
2. Curated store. Less is better for me.
3. Older titles work well on modern systems. Even on Win10.
4. Great Community. Yes, this is a reason too.
5. Lots of Giveaways. When GOG gives me so many games for free each year, I try to respect that.
6. Game goodies. Though a lot of newer games skip on these, most old games come with a lot of free goodies; from soundtracks to artbooks and concept arts.

So how can you manage purchasing on GOG when Steam offers better pricing?
Wishlist the games you want to buy and wait for a sale on them. There are Daily Deals, Weekly sales, Weekend Promos, Special sales every week, and every few months you have a big sale with 500+ titles on sale. Often many games are discounted 50% or more (upto 90% off on some games) except some recent titles.

Also every now and then GOG gives away some games for free. For example, right now Unreal Gold is up for grabs for the good price of $0.00 :) Try to grab these free games.

Also the community on the forum is great and very generous and regularly someone organizes giveaways on their own. However, most of the times you can hope to win something from your fellows here when you are a little regular on the forum and contribute some thoughts to the discussions. In short participate in the community, join in the discussions and maybe you will win some giveaways.

You can vote for Philippine peso support here. There's only eight votes so far, though, and there are many other regions/currencies that GOG would probably be more likely to support first, so I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. :)
