Randalator: Is this what having a stroke feels like?
This is the aftermath of one. having one is way more extreme.
Morrowind, when it first appeared on GOG, had a base price of just under $20; it has since been reduced to just under $15. (Incidentally, this happened at the same time the price of the Steam version got the exact same price reduction.)

Randalator: Is this what having a stroke feels like?
All this time I was assuming that typing like this (crazy 10y/o girl mode crossed with l33t internet slang and something else I can't identify) takes a lot of skill and intention to pull off. Unless you really are 10, but then you grow out of it after a while, this has been going for a few years already. There is a system behind how the text is mangled. If one was crazy enough, I bet it would be possible to build english->fairfoxish translator (not the other way around, that's impossible. Once translated, any meaning is gone). There's this one post about her going to a gym, that doesn't fit my image of stroke patient with this serious lasting effects (maybe someone with stroke of exhibitionism). Or this sentence:
tho I don't play those becaaause IMMA VERRR BAD AT THEM (capscapscaps).
You don't add capscapscapscaps - and at a proper place in the sentence - by accident, no matter how disabled you are.

Anyway, if this IS a medical condition, then I apologize for any past and future downvotes, but I think I'm developing condition myself - intense dislike of fairfox posts. Good thing I don't frequent the forums too much these days.
I don't know what surprises me more: that there's still people in this forum who don't know Fairfox yet, or that those who do and are allegedly irritated by her writing style prefer to take their time to express their irritation to the world instead of just ignoring her posts and minding their own fucking business.

Fairfox: why not perma lower teh prices after X amount o' tiem?
I can think of one particular reason: the higher base price still brings in sales at that price.

It's a funny thing with games. If you weigh the cost of making a game, then it makes complete sense that newer stuff has a higher price than older titles for which the big revenue has already been realized. But on the consumer side, value is a whole other proposition: if I get 4 hours out of a new $20 walking sim with little replay value compared with 100+ hours out of, say, Master of Orion 1 & 2 for 6 bucks...
Fairfox-to-English translation
Title: "Do games ever get permanent discounts?"

Content of post:
"Refer to the above title for the topic at hand. To my memory, such a discount has happened once or twice, although I forget for which games (and it seems to have been a while ago when this happened).

Like, ok, the problem I have with so many sales is that:
1) It lowers the "true" value (as in my/possibly our perceived baseline for the proper price of the game) substantially.
2) The high number of sales occurring on GOG causes a sort of burnout where it feels overdone or otherwise exhausting.

To further explain 1), obviously the original price is simply whatever the publishers consider the game to be worth (or what they can raise the price to, depending on honesty), but we get so many sales here that, ultimately, the games become devalued. For example, paying $30 for SOMA - which is its retail value - is ridiculous; if you're paying that much for it here on GOG, then sure, you're supporting the developers, but you're also wasting your money considering that the title often sells for far less here and elsewhere due to frequent sales. If you don't mind that or money isn't a concern for you, that's fine, but in these current economic times, I feel that there's need for increased frugality.

To further expound upon this, people are spending less on physical games (or at least, so I've read), and I don't see online stores (which are clearly becoming far more prevalent) being any different. People need to hold onto their money more in this uncertain world, and games are already seen as a luxury as it is.

Why not simply permanently lower the prices after a set amount of time? I know it's not really GOG's decision and rather at the discretion of the publishers, but do they just not care enough about GOG? Or is this problem more widespread [zeonote: not sure what she refers to here, could be referring to either the frequency of sales or the pricing, either that or she assumes that this is a GOG-specific situation]? It seems silly to me. Instead, there should be less sales, but with more sensible prices on the whole. I haven't bought much whenever the GOG sales roll around thanks to this constant repetition of discounts. As I said, I find these sale prices to be more the "true" prices thanks to how frequently they happen, so if I'm passing them up due to fatigue and because of this being my perceived "new normal" for the pricing, I'm certainly not going to pay more than this.

You could also 'mind your own fucking business' and ignore the people who are complaining about Fairfox. You're white knighting for her right to shitpost, but what about the rights of all the other forum users to express their opinions when she shitposts?

There is a notable difference, though; if people tell her what they they think she might realize that her 'gimmick' doesn't amuse anybody but herself and give it a rest. I doubt it, because she seems too wrapped up in her performance to give a shit about annoying the community, but you never know.

On the other hand, if people take your advice and ignore her, we all have to scroll through her grating puerile shtick every frigging day.

And as for 'allegedly irritating'', you have to be joking. It's like listening to a spoiled 6 year old that still speaks in baby talk because her parents haven't told her it stopped being cute years ago. You can't honestly be surprised that people don't want to read that on a daily basis, can you?

I'm not surprised people don't want to read that. I'm surprised people feel the need to post in every single thread of hers about how annoyed they are about it. Again: I'm surprised, but I'm not mad about it and I'm not telling anybody what to do.

If anything, I'm amused by all this. And with every new Fairfox thread I'm more convinced that she's the one who's having the most fun out of it all. :D

This. I wish I could give you more than just one "plus".

Good grief man, go and make a "thank-the-academy" speech instead of wasting your time and effort on this :D

Reading Fairfox's posts out loud is about the only 'fun' that can be had, and it is masochism.
So we're in agreement then; we kill her.

Any objections?

Yes, how fun it must be to talk like an annoying internet cat meme from 2008 on a game company forum constantly and expecting people to answer your questions and engage with you in conversation seriously. Wow she really got us. Definitely not a desperate attempt at seeking attention. Nope.
