Yeah, the native voices approach is exactly what you assume and The Dark Eye is going for it, or better said the publisher.

Concerning the 0 diversity - they sort of did that with options provided in the Tasha's Cauldron source book. In there you have options to create characters without racial stats, benefits.

I get you from a setting perspective - 2nd edition has great settings - Forgotten Realms, Dark Sun, Planescape, Ravenloft, Mystara etc.

So does that mean they're gonna go out and find actual elves and whatnot to play some of the parts? Well, points for them for authenticity, I guess. ;D

DnD in PC RPGs is passable but far from perfect. It has features that annoy me, but I can usually get over those things. I am specifically talking about the game mechanism, more than settings or races or worlds or shit in DnD games.

I've never played pen&paper DnD RPGs and never will, so no idea nor care how the system works there.

Maybe... Try ShadowRun for Genesis. It's not D&D, but it follows the rulebook and system VERY closely, which i realized after i read the 4th Edition book on the actual mechanics you see how it actually is suppose to work. There's an unbelievable amount you can't do in regards to freedom, but the basics are there and once you get your groove going it's quite enjoyable.

Trying to play Balder's Gate it is quickly overwhelming vs smaller set of rules and things to keep track of.

Pathfinder and 13th Age arent exactly DnD but they are D20. Do people hate them as well?
