For everything I long to do / No matter when or where or who.

Larian Studios have done it again! Rejoice, you handful of people who haven't yet tried what was arguably the best RPG of 2017, for Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition has arrived, FREE for all owners of the base game. Newcomers can benefit from the 10% discount running until September 9th, 5 PM UTC.

The amount of additions and improvements that it brings is nothing short of staggering, so here's a list which almost does them justice:

- A new Story Mode option for those who don't like spending too much time with combat considerations while enjoying the world and atmosphere. You can alternate between modes at any point.
- New and reworked fights!
- Tutorial expanded to work players through the gameplay specifics more smoothly.
- Tons of new lines recorded for this Edition.
- Significant performance optimization.
- UI changes, journal revamped.

Plus, a mini DLC rides forth with this update: brave brave Sir Lora, the squirrel Knight companion who's dreading the coming of the Great Acorn, will let you become his valiant defender. Previous owners of the game get this DLC for free.

Note: You will be able to choose between the Classic and Definitive Edition from the launcher when you start the game.
Great, time for a new playthrough :)

Any tips about the early parts of the game concerning the acquisition of skills and equipments ?
It took me some time to equip my party of 4 members so I'm not sure if I should make a lone wolf for the early stage, respecc when the time comes and recruit the companions later.
Or maybe I should lower the difficulty to get a faster start.

For those who tried the update, how has the beginning changed ?

Yes, the offline installer files have been updated as well. The version number of the Definitive Edition is 3.6.x.x. The Classic version was 3.0.x.x.

Do you mean that you paid for a boxed version as a Kickstarter reward, but never received it? If so, please contact Larian support (see http://larian.com/support/) and tell them about it. Make sure to include your name, address, and the email address you used to claim the Kickstarter reward.

Nah, I mean that I still hope for box version release here in Poland. :S
Original Sin 1 is lonely on the shelf but I guess it will never happen and it's shame because I would love to play it. :/

candesco: No, it's not. You punish the people who still wanted to buy it and that's not fair and definitely not right at all.
I only have to look to The Witcher (the first one). When the EE came out existing users did get a free upgrade as well as 2 extras. New users could buy the complete EE version, including the extra's and not that you needed to buy that seperately like what here is the case. That's how it's done.

johnsala92: Just because it's been done before it doesn't mean it's inherently right.
Buying it now it will cost you much less than what people paid for it on, let's say, day1. Since they believed in the project and the game, and wanted to support the developers from the beginning, the same developers thought that it was right to thank them in some way. Other people who, rightfully so, decided to wait for reviews/discounts just get what they pay for (at a minor price, which is right). You want the updated game? You get it, at a discount. You want a minor DLC? Pay a minor surplus.
It's improving costumer loyaly vs wanting to get as many buyers as possible.
Nothing wrong with early adopters being given something for free but what's said is that they can at least allow it to be purchased together as a package. From the looks of it even the Eternal Edition doesn't include it unless it just hasn't been updated yet but it does make me wonder whether the people that had the EE got it for free. It isn't just early adopters that deserve to be rewarded for loyalty.

And there's no such thing that early adopters should get more value for money. As an early adopter you get the satisfaction of playing it first but late adopters usually get more value for money as it's always been but there's nothing wrong if you do get more value.
At this point (about 10h into a new game) definitive edition seems more like a definitive joke.

There are new, previously unseen bugs.
Combat changes are so minor they don't make any difference - core problem (scaling; a legendary/divine item on lvl X is as strong as a common item for lvl X+1) is still presented, even in the early game - I can't imagine what's going to happen when I get to Arx.
Item stat distribution is still extremely idiotic - boots requiring intelligence to boost your thievery and pyromancy. Shield boosting intelligence. Wand boosting strength. It means that more often than not you're spending time either;
a) running with characters with non-full gear (enjoy the game on tactical mode, great fun) or with common items because they give you better dmg outpost than unique/epic items for 1lvl below
b) spends A LOT of time looking for any kind of actually useful gear

Lucky charm and thievery are still mandatory perks (there's not enough good items/items with well-distributed stats for two players, not to mention full four people party so stealing and random epic items are your only chance).

Crafting - done terribly in base game - wasn't touched at all.

At this point, I'm not sure what they actually changed, but if you came back to finish the game or give yourself another run - I would strongly advise against it.

This is only for those who're coming back to the game; if you're new to it and playing it for the first time - it's still a fucking awesome game worth to play.

The last response about linux from developers I have seen, was while it was in development, that nothing is decided, and that they are focusing on finishing the game. Now there's definitive edition, can Larian make up their mind and inform us? (if they will even try to port it, or there's no chance for it).

At this moment after those years I take it as "only windows will be available", so it went to my wishlist with windows-only rules applied (which it will probably never fulfil, as that would require like 85+% sale, plus good reviews of compatibility with "wine").
No tux, no bux..
great song reference.
Which one is better ? This or Tower of Time + The Age of Decadence + Dungeon Rats ?
Absolutely fantastic!
Larian kills it again - thank for the update and looking forward to playing this gem! :)
