With compatibility set to windows xp service pack 3, the menu plays the music.

Tested right now. I remember it was a solution I found in pcgamingwiki.

Not running the GOG version.

On the other hand, 7.62 high calibre GOG version plays music fine without any compatibility setting. Not testing Hard Life.
I didn't know, but the funny thing is that the article on PCGamingWiki refers to my old guide on Steam. :)

Maybe Steam guides are one of the sources they use for the site. The fact is that it works.
