Syphon72: Honestly didn't really believe you were trying shill. Just was lost as why Zoom came up when these games are not exclusive to them. Some of the games on Zoom are straight copy's of the Gamersgates version and have no improves. Most still had all the same issues from my experience.
Fair enough. Cheers.

paladin181: Finally got Konung 3!! Woo!!!
Good for you mate! What about 1 and 2, are they good?

Just got Ascension to the Throne and Brigade E5 myself, mainly because of useful posts in this thread. I will try Brigade E5 first. If it clicks for me I will be getting 7,62 as well.

I meant GOG got it. I will buy it at the first of the month. Already have it on Steam. I loved the first one. Still haven't played the second.

Syphon72: Do mean like package with the installer? Because I did not see option.
avatar
AttObl: Yep. Anything like that.
Maybe Blue Sun could be installed manually over vanilla?

If the GOG version is not modified (which I believe is true), then there's even easier option: you can download image file from the bluesunmod webs and install it right after the base game.

Dohi64: 7.62 (basically the sequel to brigade e5) is the closest anybody's gotten to a proper jagged alliance sequel. except they have real-time with pause combat, so they couldn't be further at the same time.
Thanks for sharing. What do you mean, they couldn't be further? Because Jagged Alliance was turn-based?

Gudadantza: Ok. 7,62 comes with both the original and the fan made Hard Lfe mod or revision or whatever. Any reason to try the vanilla?
avatar
Sachys: Yeah theyre both a little different - plus hard life is HARD as the name implies.
Far as I remember they both have slightly different stories (not that theres loads of story).

Suggest starting with the original and see how it fits.
Yes, it seems that in vanilla the playing characters are mercs. In Hard Life, they are war veterans and start at a rebel camp, but after the introductory missions they can choose sides. Apparently for Hard Life they researched asymmetric conflicts in Hispanic America. The story reflects that, as well as items in the game. The Blue Sun mod, on the other hand, keeps the playing characters as mercs, it is more like "vanilla modified", instead of providing a different angle to the story.

Looks like 7,62 is a botched release - no config exe for hard life. no blue sun mod available (on that other store its available to download direct as a "beta") and the music doesnt play.

Edit: music set to 0 by default.

Games always been buggy mess. Brigade E5: New Jagged Union is missing music as well. My gamersgate versions have the same issues. I'll make support ticket.

I've just checked and with hard life at least, music is set to 0 by default - same on the competitor store.

Okay this is frankly bizarre - seem the GOG version of Hard Life is completely different - including starting loadout, skill points available etc.

I wonder if its an older version?

Edit: exact same version. No idea why its not working the same and has the missing e6config.exe

At least in E5 Brigade, I believe that with compatibility set to windows xp service pack 3, the music does play. Not sure in 7.62

But enabling musicenable to 1 is not enough. The menu is silent.

With compatibility set to windows xp service pack 3, the menu plays the music.

Tested right now. I remember it was a solution I found in pcgamingwiki.

Not running the GOG version.

On the other hand, 7.62 high calibre GOG version plays music fine without any compatibility setting. Not testing Hard Life.

That work for me. Thank you!

Apparently this also solves not only the music, but the voiceovers from time to time. Because the sounds work fine, independently, it uses to be a problem likely overlooked if never played the game before.

yes, and also because I don't like non-turn-based stuff. though obviously that alone doesn't make a jagged alliance game good, as evidenced by all the failed attempts over the years.
