and make the site look (even more) broken. So lets replace it with something that makes a bit more sense shall we. I suggest GOG Chan since people seem to like her:

I thought for a moment this was going to be a thread ranting about disabled people having profiles on GOG. Weird. I'm glad it was something else.

But, fyi, I do not like GOG-chan. I suggest a recognizable good old video game character like Samus.

Yeah 404 doesn't give enough info. But we know how long GOG takes on some things.

GOGChan should become the new mascot but in some images she should be holding GOGBear

I am not too fond of GOG-chan either; but using a character from a game is pretty much definitely a no-no for GOG, unless they pay a license.

A better solution to the problem would make the "VIEW PROFILE" option greyed out and not a link, so that people won't hit the 404 pages because they won't try to view the non-existent profiles.

(Of course, the 404 error will still need to be there for those who happen to type in such a link, but this change would make 404 pages much rarer and would reduce frustration.)

This is a great solution. I like 404 pages for disabled profiles because of privacy. Sure, my profile is public, but others don't want theirs (obvs). If you mark a profile as disabled, then it denotes that that user exists on GOG. Some may not want others even knowing that much.

My best suggestion is to redirect to the GOG homepage instead of a 404 error on any "profile" link that is invalid, much like the store for invalid game page links. That is much classier than the 404 page and doesn't differentiate between a non-existent user or a user with a disabled profile.
