***CLOSED***GIVEAWAY OVER***

Hey, folks! So I've been mostly lurking on the forums of late, save for my appearances in one thread and occasional hello's elsewhere, but a recent exchange of music with a particular gentlemanly Viking made me realize both that I miss hearing new music and the concept of "mix tapes," and that I haven't had a giveaway in a very long time.

The rules:

-make and post a "digital mix tape"
Pick 10 or more of your favorite songs, but the context is up to you. Your favorite songs of all time, or your favorite songs to game to, or songs you love to fall asleep to, go running to, drive to, music that reminds you the most of your childhood, etc.

-explain the context of your digital mix tape.
Even if it's just "all-time favorites." Or write up something about each song. Participation beyond that is more than welcome, so if you'd enjoy writing about the songs you chose, or what they remind you of, etc, have at it!

-state which prize(s) you are in for. If you'd like to enter for more than one prize, please list your entries in order of preference. Each winner will win one of the listed prizes, 4 winners total.

-please, no known scammers (I'm the trusting sort, but won't consider the entries of any Clearly Obvious Hamburglars.)

-though *not* required, if the songs on your list can be found on the youtubes or what have you, feel more than welcome--encouraged, even!--to post your list as links to the songs.

-you are required to have some number next to where it says "rep" or something. I really don't care if that number is positive or negative, or zero, so long as you have some sort of non-Hamburglar forum presence. :)

-winners will be chosen by some method, or some other method, or perhaps by a third method. Yeah, I really don't know how the crap I'll do this one. Most likely it'll be the random gods or some dice rolls, but if I'm particularly inspired by someone's post, I may give it a bit more weight as an entry. I dunno. Pretty unfair, eh? Yeah, sorry. You'd know I was a jerk already if you'd met me. ;)

-If you're inspired to enter for someone else instead of for yourself, you are welcome to do so, but I will only count one entry per person... if you enter for someone and they later enter for themselves, feel free to change your entry, so long as I haven't yet marked the giveaway as closed.

The prizes:

-2 x 1 $5.99 GOG game* (or equal amount put towards whatever promo may be active when I close this)

-Wasteland 2 (GOG)

-The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles / Aarklash Legacy (GOG)**

*in other words, two winners will each receive one $5.99 game
**both in a single key

Giveaway ends:

-um... we'll say this coming weekend. Most likely this Friday night (9th of October in the PM, as per Eastern US time) but I have a medical visit during the day that may run late, so don't throw tomatoes just yet if Saturday rolls around and this is still just lying neglected in a corner of the forums. Pretty please. :)

I'll make my own and post it shortly, after I've napped a bit, showered, had some coffee, and napped a bit more. I hope you're all doing well and enjoying your week!

***UPDATE*** I'll be leaving this open over the part of the weekend, and will either close it Saturday or Sunday evening. Sorry for the delay! Feel free to continue adding submissions, or editing submissions made if necessary until I mark this as closed. Have a lovely weekend!

Not in, but +1 and thanks :-)

I happen to have a "themed mix tape" in the form of a YouTube playlist that I can share. The theme is very simple, but also of a nature that it's almost no theme at all. You see, I am very prone to getting songs stuck in my head. Quite often, I wake up in the morning with a song on my mind. At one point, I decided to make a YouTube playlist and add these songs to it as and when they appeared. I have neglected it for a while (I've simply forgotten to update it), but what is there is still a quite diverse and odd collection of songs. Mind you, some of them are Danish (either in Danish, or in English but by Danish bands).

Songs on my mind
very nice idea.... i'll give it a try:

7: LDC - Die Schwarze Zone (7" Version)

Thanks for the giveaway! :) I'll be in for a $5.99 game. Here's my mix:

1. Blood of Eden – Peter Gabriel
I find this song really touching and comforting at the same time for some reason. It sort of makes me feel like relationships (and the world in general) can be pretty messed up sometimes, but that it’s okay in the end. If I ever get married I think I’d like it to be to this song. (EDIT: as in, I'd like to have this song playing, not to actually get married to it. :P)

2. Up All Night – Charlotte Martin
Charlotte Martin is my all-time favorite artist, I love everything she does. She experiments with lots of different styles so it was hard to choose. If you like what you hear I encourage you to check out more songs. She originally trained as an opera singer and as such she’s awesome on live recordings as well. She writes all of her own songs and plays the piano herself too. She was originally signed with RCA but after becoming dissatisfied with them she decided to start her own label.

3. The Dance – Charlotte Martin
Like I said, Charlotte’s my favorite artist so I guess she deserves two songs. :P I love the build-up in this one. The beat is steady and calm throughout, and then at the end of the song the music and her voice just explode.

4. Astronaut – Amanda Palmer
I have great respect for Amanda Palmer. Besides being an awesome artist she is also an awesome person. She doesn’t care about what society thinks is ‘proper’ and always draws her own plan instead. I saw her life last year and she took off all of her clothes because she just doesn’t give a shit. When the Daily Mail published a gossipy article about her boob slipping from her bra during a performance she thrashed them soundly by writing an awesome song about them. A real inspiration. And she’s now married to one of my favorite writers (Neil Gaiman) to boot. :P

5. Can’t Get It Out Of My Head – Electric Light Orchestra
Because what’s any playlist without ELO? I just love rocking out to them, such awesome music. :)

6. Daniel – Bat For Lashes
Bat For Lashes’ music is always a bit insane but in a hauntingly beautiful way. I love all her CDs, they make for excellent listening and somehow they always make me feel very calm. :P

7. Storm Song – Phildel
Phildel’s music is also very calming and beautiful in an otherworldly way.

8. Strangers in a Car – Marc Cohn
I can probably listen to Marc Cohn’s self-titled album forever and not get bored. Such beautiful and touching music. I love this song in particular, probably because it’s a bit mysterious.

9. Fear and Loathing – Marina and the Diamonds
By now we’ve probably established what kind of music I like. :P So yeah, another female singer that I really like. This is probably one of her calmer songs. She also has a lot of upbeat songs in which she pokes fun at society in a rather sarcastic manner.

10. Blinding – Florence and the Machine
Everyone probably knows her by now, but I still quite enjoy listening to her music. It always manages to capture the strange and unexpected, and I really like her voice.

There’s a lot of other stuff that I listen to as well, but it’s harder to pick a song than an artist, I think. I like lots of musicians without having one particular song that’s especially awesome. On the other hand it also happens quite a lot that I just like one or two songs from a particular artist. I tried to have the best of both worlds here by picking both artists that I like and songs that I particularly enjoy, but it didn’t always work out. :P

Fun giveaway, I'll try something like this:

80's TV & movies song mix

Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight
The song that kicked off Miami Vice and gave us one of the best and most important scenes in TV history.

Clannad - Robin (The Hooded Man)
The song that opened every episode of possibly the best TV series of all time, and became synonymous with it's entire magnificent soundtrack.

Bryan Ferry - Is Your Love Strong Enough
Ridley Scott's Legend is about as style over substance as a movie can get, but the soundtrack (Tangerine Dream vesion) is fantastic, and Ferry's song is a superb choice for that very 80's fantasy flick.

Harold Faltermeyer, Steve Stevens - Top Gun Anthem
"You can not make anything half as gay and awesome as Top Gun. It cannot be done".

The Prime Movers - Strong as I am
Michael Mann's Manhunter is one of the greates thrillers of all time, and his choice of soundtrack is a big part of that.

Bricklin - Walk Away
Because it's EXCELLENT!

America - The Last Unicorn
The movie is something of a mixed bag, but that intro is simply beautiful.

Queen - Who Wants to Live Forever
Never was there a better soundtrack for a fantasy movie than that of Highlander, and Who Wants to Live Forever is masterpiece even among their other songs.

Red 7 - Heartbeat
It's so awesome Mann put it both in Manhunter and Miami Vice.

David Bowie - Magic Dance
Seriously, what can I say? No words can do it justice. It just IS.

I'm in for Wasteland 2, or failing that a 5.99 game will also be great :)

Very enjoyable soundtrack. Thanks for the reminder. Think I might have it on vinyl...

Another interesting one from a similar time period is the soundtrack for To Live and Die in LA, by Wang Chung. No mistaking it for anything other than 80s. Some good synth / instrumentals.
