tinyE: Think about [...] rainbows for a few minutes, relax.
For somebody who hates the diversity that rainbows stand for, I don't think rainbows would be a pleasant thought.

On the other hand, I embrace such thoughts; people are diverse.

DubConqueror: Luckily what I really want doesn't clash with the happiness and livelihood of others and others species, as that is exactly what I want most: a world where everyone's happy. A world that's just, sustainable, where everyone is equally wealthy and has enough to eat and live without harming the biosphere.

Nirth: That is one high demand, one that is most definitely never going to happen. For one thing, how exactly would a world work where everyone is equally wealth? I understand the idea that everyone would have decent opportunities in life and good health but given biological differences both in need and capabilities I don't see that as even a viable option unless you're willing to kill humanity's diversity.
Communism: if everything is free, there is no need for wealth

Too bad the prerequisite is people being selfless and working for the common good for free, which ain't ever gonna happen. Unless we get robots to do all the work people don't want to do for free.

Actually, even then...
1. Somebody needs to design, build, and program the robots.
2. Robots can and will break down, and somebody needs to be able to repair them.

These things can't easily be replaced with robots (doing so would require strong AI), and even then, the wrong kind of malfunction could result in human intervention being necessary.

It probably results in robots taking over the world and galaxy.

No problem. Lately I'm not sleeping at all myself so I am totally with you there.

Technological singularity = AI that can do anything humans can do, but much better.
Well, I've been struggling with a lot of questions of similar scope lately. Anyone that read my thread about how I hated my job and ended up fired from it about a month ago, knows I'm currently stuck trying to figure out what to do with my life because I'm not really interested in continuing my current line of work (even though there are plenty of jobs in it in my city), and I can't quite get interested in the things my psychologist tells me should interest me because of my profile, at least not in a way I feel motivated to plan ahead and follow said plan.

On my last therapy session (two weeks ago), my psychologist gave me a sheet of paper to do a simple plan ahead of what I want to accomplish in my life and I still haven't written a single word on it.

I've also been trying to write a book to try some self publishing, and I was going somewhat well, even if not completely smoothly, but I somehow lost my drive somewhere in these last two weeks. It got me thinking that I still don't know what drives me forward, into accomplishing things.

So I believe that this mysterious Drive is the one thing I need to figure out to follow ahead and find the ultimate purpose of ultimate destiny in my life.

I believe that was part of his scheme to annoy you, which worked.

You have a background in IT right? In case you were interested in creating a company, I highly suggest you read Paul Graham's Essays. They are excellent. You might already know about him but if not, he's a successful computer programmer and venture capitalist but many of his articles help give advice to people who want to create rather than invest in a new start-up.
