Keep an eye out for these localized game versions that just hit our catalog.



Throughout the years, many of the games that are part of GOG.com have seen localized releases and we ventured to collect many of them with the help of our dedicated community and a thorough search through our master archives. Today, 21 games featuring some of these elusive releases enter our wonderful, digitized catalog.

Learning a foreign language is no easy task, although games have been known to expedite the process. And hunting down localized versions comes with its own challenges but we are not ones to give up easily. Besides, we were not alone in this noble quest. Many of the localized versions on this list come from our personal collections, others we acquired through persistent eBay hunting, but a good number of them were submitted by members of our wonderful multilingual community, that humbled us with their generosity. Let’s take a moment to offer these people a resounding high-five and a warm "thank you" for making this Community Language Pack possible with their contributions.

A huge thanks to all these people and the team at ScummVM.org for their numerous donations — both physical and digital. Good job, you guys. We may speak different languages, live in different parts of the world, or even enjoy different genres. But we are all gamers, and that's a word that sounds awesome in every language, n'est-ce pas?


Note: These language versions will be getting gradually rolled out today, so don't fret if you don't see your language version right away.

JudasIscariot: Well, the English version of Ultima IX required a metric ton of work in order for us to even think about selling it so the same goes for the German version of Ultima IX.

...what about LegacyOfKain? I do own german copies from SoulReaver II, BloodOmen II and Defiance.
But this would be it from my side---unless you get XIII back or finally can add NOLF or MaxPayne, the classic Lego-Titles, the classic HarryPotters...

Pawel1995: Yes I know that these are not fan translations.. My question was if you can work with official translations,too or not.
Let's take a look:

The translations they got were not fan translation so they must have been official translations and this has been confirmed. So why do you still have the question if they can work with official translations? The answer is yes.

wolfsrain: I prefer my games in Engrish, but it's nice to see those language available for people that don't master the universal language of ingles.
Some wants it just for nostalgia / they're used to have the game in there native language. This is true when it comes to Pharao and the Cleopatra expansion. I have the swedish version and played it alot as a kid and I just can't play the english version.
I hope someone will find the tools for this game so we can get a swedish GOG version. As of now, if you move the files from the swedish version over to the english version, the text don't fit the UI.

Treasure: and that fact that Greek is a niche language shouldn't necessarily mean that dubs in that language are going to be worse or something...

JMich: Depends on where the dub is made actually. If you dub something in Greek in Greece, you are going to get a much better result than if you dub something in Greek in the US. And I'm not sure how many gaming studios would look for Greek voice actors in Greece instead of where their recording studios are.
Mostly a matter of audience and production size, I guess. I remember most German voice-overs from the 90s and early 2000s were bloody awful, but nowadays many seem to be decent ( at least the big AAA productions ). They just didn't have the money for a good cast of professional voice actors back then ( or at least didn't want to spend it ). Even the text translations were often pretty bad.

Treasure: Honest question: Was a Greek version ever released for most videogames in the 1st place? I recall Deponia from the top of my head as having Greek subtitles, but not many more games have such an option.
There have been several PC games with Greek subtitles available, throughout the years. Off the top of my head: Scratches, The Abbey, and Nikopol: Secrets of the Immortals definitely had that option.
Also one or more games from the Atlantis series, perhaps no.3, and a couple of other Cryo games like Egypt and Odyssey: The Search for Ulysses, if I recall correctly.

There have been others, too, but memory is a bit fuzzy right now. Too much Samorost 3, not enough sleep :/

... and the French version, too. :( TLJ had an excellent french dub - I particularly miss Cortez voiced by Eric Legrand.

EDIT: I see people volunteering official translations - is that how this works? Because I still have my french version of The Longest Journey - if it's only a matter of getting a hold of the translations, and not a matter of rights, then I could provide that.

Well, there are also the FIFA series, Pro Evolution Soccer series, Football Manager series, some games from Sony (like God of War 3), European Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator.

Geralt_of_Rivia: Most likely. The worst German I have ever read in a game was the sentence: "Kopieren Akten auf harte fährt."

For people who don't speak German let me just tell you the above sentence is far worse than "All your base are belong to us." ;-)

Yeah, I think that's what they meant, but it took me a moment to figure it out. Google Translate at its best. :P

I wonder if companies still use automatic translation software nowadays. I suspect some Asian hardware/electronics companies do...

But then again some people do NEED a localisation so this should not be a reason not to release it.

I usually play in english (that's basically how i learnt to speak it), but that's a great news to see GOG handling localization. I know that a lot of my fellow countrymen have a hard time playing non-localized game, so that might bring more people to GOG.

(By the way, I don't want to be that guy, but it's actually spelled "n'est-ce pas")

For obtaining Czech translations,I would recommend you contacting Farflame. He has translated many games in Czech language. Here's a link to his website so that you can contact him :) :

Many Czech translations were also made by Czech CDProjekt(Gothic, for example). Some are made by Czech publisher TopCD
