You are not going to change my mind about Devotion, as I find the whole backlash toward GOG to be ridiculous ... way over the top, totally illogical and purely emotional, and a lot of those making the outcry are just armchair revolutionaries full of double standards.

I'd much rather GOG maintain their Chinese market and actually have an impact in all sorts of ways on China, rather than risk giving that all up for the sake of one game.

And honestly all this nonsense about GOG's excuse ... maybe it's true, maybe it's not, but why should anyone give a toss really ... it's like we are supposed to believe none of the complainers have ever told lies themselves ... respect is a two-way street.

Just a whole bunch of silliness going down, trying to hold GOG to account to a standard, that none of the ragers live up to themselves.

I suggested it on Fireflower too, but the dev there doesn't want the game because the controversy reminded him(?) of bullying which he dislikes.

I think if they are serious about growing their site, they really need to capitalize on the current levels of dissatisfaction of the GOG user base. Getting Devotion would be a big coup, but there are other things people are annoyed about as well, for example a perception of gradual slippage of GOG's DRM-free promise, with games like No Man's Sky, Absolver and the pre-order bonuses in Cyberpunk.

Other things they could do aside from releasing Devotion, to encourage more users to switch, would be to upgrade their site and show some progress in terms of getting new games and publishers on board. I really hope we will see some signs of growth over the next few months (and hopefully Devotion).

From Post 136: One could easily say the same thing about some of the reactions after a certain DLer was removed from GOG, now couldn't they? So you're saying or inferring that people who aren't perfect cannot and shouldn't criticize GOG? That makes little sense whatsoever(as no one is perfect).

2. If it was a game making fun of, say, a man made of cheetos....would they refuse to stock such a game as well?

(nothing seemed rule breaking from reading it, though I could be wrong) Well I think zoom platform is so small that they wouldn't mind the lost sales if china tried to block or blocked their citizens from buying there.

Also the all the buzz and talk about Devotion would likely get them a good number of sales if they released it there.

Still, afaik atm they are busy with bringing other games to that site and improving/changing things about the site/store there....so if they do do it it might be awhile.

Probably the latter quoted paragraph about bringing up the Devotion business as a surprise question in an interview at Gamescom that got the post killed (as if the original poster is the only one who'd come up with such an idea). Not that I waste any time being bothered about such things - delete away for all I care.

In regards to potential repercussions for smaller platforms like Zoom that would risk carrying Devotion - I was actually thinking of way more serious and really damaging reactions such as DDos'ing the website, for example.

The wishlist request for Devotion currently has over 8000 votes. If Zoom Platform were to sell it at $20 a pop and 8000 people bought it, that's $160,000 right there for the taking. It doesn't exactly seem like 'small fry' for a small store that is trying to get off the ground, for what I would expect to be about a week's worth of work.

They'd likely charge a bit less, and they'd have to give the dev their cut....still, there's likely a good number of people who'd buy it....because it is a decent game to them, or even if just out of curiosity or principle.

I'm not sure what price GOG had been planning to sell it at, but I think $20 could be easily justified, given the recent publicity surrounding the game and if they are the only store selling it. I would buy it for $20 on day 1, easily. Yes, they would of course have to give the devs their share, but if ZP takes 30%, that's still almost $50,000, which is a decent chunk of change for a small store. It would pay for (approximately) one person working for most of a year on further game releases (or website improvements).

Besides, it would be a fantastic exclusive for them, just in terms of publicity.
