Fate-is-one-edge: They are protecting their domestic interests, as they should.
This is actually respectable, nevermind what people coonsider of the Chinese government.
There might be some truth to this. And, if we turn on it, how many people would go bananas if some chinese studio released a game on Steam that mocks Trump, Obama or Sanders?

Not saying that the chinese president is much to defend, it's more that it's an obnoxious move towards the chinese and China to include mockery of their politics. Very unprofessional.

Well, a Japanese company release a doujinshi with Obama screwing a Japanese maid and Hillary getting reamed by PM Tarō Asō, all while John McCain looks on and grins "Yes we cunt." Don't think that resulted in any boycotts.

Edit: Might want to mention the name. It's Tonari no Tarō-kun.

Similar games were nothing special.
Some examples:
Throw a Shoe at George Bush
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=do2sFcfvi6o

Throw Cherry Pies At Donald Trump
https://www.vrfocus.com/2018/05/throw-cherry-pies-at-donald-trump-in-vr-title-humble-pie/

I think I have seen at least six or seven similar games in past decade.

Each would stick to their own guns, respective to their culture, beliefs and social construct.
As this stands, I don't think it's of special interest that Chinese, in their majority, consumers, are boycotting this product.
What would bother me personally is that people who disagree with China's political hierarchy are self-entitled to the right to insult its authority, for which the Chinese consumers are replying in kind and in accordance to where they stand about this.
Again, not of particular interest, while quite foreseeable.

DadJoke007: I'll just add this review as well, in case other people than me don't get it and wanna to look it up.

Review:
Devotion got review-bombed because a hidden easter egg in the game depicts Xi Jinping, the supreme leader of communist China, as an evil cultist emperor. It's really funny that the reviews are overwhelming positive before the easter egg was discovered. The oppressed are unironically defending their oppressor. This is exactly what a cult looks like.

Game itself is decent as a horror walking simulator. The only thing I dislike is the movement speed.

What's ironic is that everyone would have ignored it had they not bombed it: they are proving the old saw that there is no such thing as bad publicity. :D

Why do you assume that ordinary Chinese people think communism is in their domestic interest? o.O

I just want this to be clear between us.
I watched your attitude around the forums and I am left unimpressed, to say the least.
I would like you to not bother replying to my comments from now on, since you won't be replied at or considered.
Deal with it.
Cheers.

I don't know if this was intentional or not but it's really sad to see a good game like this get review bombed due to political bits.
Yeah but what can ya do...

Be more specific (show that you have a shred of integrity), and I'll consider your request.

In other words: "Oh noes, foreigners dare disrespect the Papadopoulos junta, but but, it is the GREEK State, I am GREEK, it is my DUTY to defend the honour of the Colonels to my last breath against whoever dares deriding them abroad !!"

Damn, nationalism makes my skin crawl.

Pretty much, yes.
Kindly mind your own bussiness. Your targeted sarcasm and lack of knowledge about that particular part of Hellenic history is not appreciated.
The ignorance of underage kids and vengefull downvoting disgusts me. I feel sorry for you.

Won't. I'll carry on mocking dictators and human-rights-stomping government throughout the world, as well as the goons fanatically supporting them, whether it'd make you cry or not. Get used to it.

Then be prepared to be treated with indignity and prejudice like other indignant users before you.
In fact let me get that bot running.
Cheers.

Heh, I live in a country where badmouthing Hitler was illegal during the 40s, I was subscribed to a journal whose redaction got slaughtered because they were showing disrespect to some remote theocracy, and I work with NGOs protecting people from tradition- or state-sanctionned murders abroad. I can endure a few lowbrow national-fanatics online, I suppose.
