Back in the saddle.

Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive, the tactical gunslinging classic, has recently received an update that brings new content plus several convenient improvements. Here's the rundown:

- Help Cooper, Doc, and Kate save a town from outlaw scumbags in a new mission designed to be the game's demo.
- The game's core technology has been updated to work well on systems running Win 7/8/10.
- Mac and Linux support added!
- Additional language options added: English, French, German, Spanish (both for the demo and main game), Italian, Russian (main game only)

Both Desperados games are now 80% off until July 16th, 5pm UTC. If you haven't tried them yet, go ahead and give them a shot. Or two.

gamesfreak64: unless... my hardware fails , backups need hardware like disks, cd/dvd rom to be stored/burned on
playing small games now from a USB drive local drives are getting crowded so i move all the gigabytes of casualgames.
Yeah, that's a possibility. But as I noted, I've not run across this issue. I've had HDDs fail, but I always have a second backup of my data at the very least. And then I get new hardware so I have my redundancy back up to snuff.

Seriously though, if you're worried about hardware failure losing all your game files, do redundant backups. The chance of all of them failing simultaneously is probably a lot smaller than the chance of GOG making Galaxy mandatory.

Tarhiel: Absolutely perfect, gonna buy the whole trilogy.
Thank you, GOG and THQ Nordic :)
There's a trilogy?! There is! I bought the first one so fast, I didn't even bother to look beyond the "ADD TO CART" button.

I'm assuming "Both" refers to Desperados 2. That game title isn't explicitly stated, so I'm not sure. There are no mentions of updates for Desperados 2 or Helldorado. Are updates to those games planned? Maybe some updates that can improve their review scores? I hope so, because I'm probably grabbing Desperados 2 today, thanks to Tarhiel's mention of it. It just seems like the right thing to do for any game from THQ Nordic.

Thank you GOG, and thank you THQ Nordic! Very classy pro-gamer treatment!

GR00T: If you DL and save the old backup installers, you won't lose anything.

gamesfreak64: I know thanks for the reminder , problem is what if in case i have a new setup one day ? new PC and my setups on backup disc /external usb drive are gone or damaged, backupdrives dont have eternal life.... there will be no download available ?
I fear in time all backups be gone ... yes only autodownloads with only Galaxy ( client only) support cause it makes life soo much easier, problem is 99% of all digishops already do that so i hope GOG will stay 'old fashioned' which is a dream cause at the current rate games arrive its a matter of months before everything is Steam like.... ( sad face)
You need MultiPar. With MultiPar my Good Old Games (GOG) will never become Damaged Old Games (DOG). Complete correct data can always be recovered. I use 10% redundancy with MultiPar. MultiPar works on Linux, FreeBSD, etc with Wine. Here is MultiPar:

Don't go to multipar.eu, it is distributing malware. There is no PAR3 - there is only PAR2.

GOG.com: Both Desperados games
GOG, dear. Helldorado is also a Desperados game, just FYI.

DebbieL: Thanks for this, GOG! Looking forward to playing that demo level again.

To the people wondering about getting this: it's an atrociously difficult game, but immensely satisfying when you finally get the hang of it. Just don't expect to be able to go in guns blazing: it's very much designed for stealth play, along with lots of save-scumming and quickloads. You have to get really familiar with all the characters and their skills, as well as the ability to set up multiple actions at the same time.
I bought Desperados yesterday (even though I am not into strategy games but I liked the western setting and that there seems to be an actual stoy so I will try to manage it) and I just noticed that the second part is on sale as well (don't know why I missed it). Is this a continuing story or are both games completely stand alone?

Desperados 2 is supposedly a continuation of the first one. Check out the reviews here on GOG for further info (there are some complaints about how it was done - didn't stop me from grabbing it for that sale price though. :P)

I want to avoid spoilers but if you are telling me that reviews are confirming it I will grab it as well.

We should also mention, that Helldorado is a direct continuation to Desperados 2. While the story in Desperados 2 can stand for itself, there is a small cliffhanger in the end sequence that lead to the beginning of Helldorado.

Thank you. I will try Desperados 1 and 2 first and maybe wait for a sale for part 3 as well.

gamesfreak64: desperados 1 worked fine on my Xp 32 bit and win7 64 bits , talking bout the retail game
so why update things ?
Well, I had NO trouble running the game either as I think I played it on XP last time I did... BUT nice for those that do not have Windows XP that they can play it too now. MY problems with the game were more of me being terrible at it.

Spoiler-free synopsis: story starts with new characters, while there are some of the old characters from the first game. However, the complaints stem from the different voice actors for the old characters (something I understand, but I find I can live with it - I managed to finish Witcher 3 just fine despite the god-awful voice actress they got for Triss in W3), as well as complaints about the character models being different as well.

There are various complaints about performance and bugs, but many times I find performance complaints are rig-specific.

So, yeah, I grabbed it at that sale price. I'd picked up Helldorado during the last sale, not even realizing it was part 3 of the trilogy. So I've got the complete series now. Not sure when I'll get to it, but thinking it may be after I finish whaling in Nantucket. :)

Since I plan to play in German I might not even have this "problem" but I agree - depending on how well the voices do fit it's probably possible to live with different voice actors as well.

Some people simply need to grasp the idea, GOG's "mission" is to provie old games that work on NEW computers and systems, not briniging old games to work on OLD computers.

using outdated OS's and demand that any software sold today should work on it is ridiculous.

you want old games that are compatible with your old ass rig? But retail on eBay and quit wasting our time.

(this comment is not aimed directly at anyone, I just quoted you guys for convenience)

Thank you Nordic for putting work into an old catalogue title. That is great to see. With my huge game back catalogue it is great to know I can still play tittles as Microsoft forces us to update further along over time getting further away from the original operation systems games were written for.
Now please work on Legacy of Kain series for Windows 10. It's pain in the ass to get all those 4 titles running flawlessly.
