Can it be said that, arguably, this game started the genre of the walking simulator? Video games, a medium where good craftmanship produces results that range from pure entertaintment to art.

amok: Yes, in many ways Dear Esther was the first walking simulator, though only in terms of originating the.... term....

There have been games that now are seen as walking simulators before this, for example The Graveyard or The Path. Dear Esther was the first "mainstream" walking simulator.
Agreed. It made the term popular. It had a derogative meaning at the beginning, as in "just walking, no fighting, no puzzles (or relatively easy puzzles)".

And now, for something completely different...

...Here, one that will be short and super easy (maybe).

A: Man, I didn't know this guy was so tough.

B: Yeah, techonologically minded, too.

A: All peaceful and all that, they say. Bollocks. And where did he get his clothes from? Not Saville Road, apparently.

B: Nope. He looked more like a street beggar, if you get what I mean.

A: A man in his position.

B: Maybe that is the message he wants to get across: "Hey, even dressed like this and wearing wire glasses and false teeth, I can still mop the floor with you. Imagine if I was eating beef and getting all cycled with, er, vitamins."

A: The man doesn't even wear his false teeth. He takes them away when he's done eating. His vegetables. A ve-ge-ta-rian. That adds insult to injury.

B: Yeah, it makes it hurt more, I guess. Not pretty what he did, man.

A: Not that he had not warned he could, I guess.

B: Yea, but still.

Peaceful, vegetarian, wire glasses, using false teeth... But, in the game, he seems to be tough and 'technologically minded', too. You DO know the guy :-)

A and B have played the game.

And.... nope, Deus Ex poses morality concerns, but not even close... Not even the same genre... And we are talking about an older Good Old Game here.

Care to solve or provide some more hints?

In this game, the guy described above might be one of your opponents (although he is no longer alive, in the real world). There is a great contrast between his public persona and his behaviour in the game.
The man is the leader of his faction... This is a strategy game that inspired a series of games... With new titles in recent times.... But the last two installments are not in GOG... Also, another sequel with a different name is in GOG.... but its own sequel, a modern game, is not.... Did that clarify anything? Going to guess that it didn’t :-/

My head hurts :-D Might as well go on all limbs here and suggest The Saboteur (don't ask me why), before running for cover and dig myself a big hole I won't come back out anytime soon since am likely very incredibly wrong....

Mmmmmmmnnnnnn... noooooooo :D

It is a much older game... We are talking about the nineties!! The very beginning of the nineties.... This guy’s behaviour was infamous at the time, people were shocked.... He leads his country in the game...... And the genre is... strategy............... A very famous game and series of games.... with a series looking at the past, and two separate sequels (one modern, another older), that look into the future.....

If you get ever lost, remember that there is not a way towards peace, peace is the way...

The guy’s behaviour in the game.... In reality people adored him.... mostly... Some were really, really, but REALLY upset with him, sadly.

Just think a title that is a granddaddy of strategy games, and you cannot go wrong....

Loool, I knew it! Well got a hole to dig. When someone will eventually come upwith the answer -won't be me, it'll be 'of course'! Pffff!

Come on! You can do it! (guessing the title, not the digging) :-)

This large country.... eventually split into two... with lots of conflict about it....
Civilization? And the man is Gandhi.

Well if you insist on me making a fool of myself, here you go: Settlers. Happy now? :-D :-D

Ah yes, the glasses.... Dunno about the false teeth but wouldn't be surprised if you were the winner at guessing that sadistically badly described game ;-)

I figured it out when he said the man is dead in real life and his persona is different in the game. Peaceful in real life and nuclear warmonger in the game. The teeth and glasses clues didn't help or hinder me.

Bioshock, of course.

Yeah, I know, out of turn. But I just finished playing through it for the second time. ;)
