Grargar: It's still not very rare, though.

And it's not even common on GOG. Only 4 games were removed this year, one of them also removed on Steam (Scratches) and it's a possibility that the Descent games might be removed as well (or at least change the publisher's name).
There are over 6,000 games on Steam, 363 have been removed, that's a rate of 6%, and that's not counting the games that were removed because they were broken or something.

And GOG has more than 1000 games and there have been 24 removals. That's a rate of less than 2.4%.

Well, I suppose there would be no reason to panic yet. The changing of ownership of rights is something that happens very often; however, it doesn't mean the new owners won't continue their contract to make those titles available through GOG unless they really felt they had a reason to not do so. (Maybe they want to re-negotiate, who knows.)

However, given some of the replies in this thread, it doesn't seem like the demand for the game is that high that it gives them leverage in negotiations. I wouldn't be surprised to see it come back for a New Year's sale at 75% off just to move more of them! :)

I assume (but can't confirm) that the rights have been sold to Descendent Studios (developers of Descent: Underground). For the time being, the pages for the Descent games still point to Interplay as the publisher, but Konrad mentioned in the very first post that the rights have changed hands, so who knows what might happen. Maybe, it's indeed Descendent Studios (who haven't signed a deal with GOG yet), maybe it will be someone else and the games will be removed from Steam, as well.

A shame. Games being lost from the catalog is the situation that originally got my collection growing so quickly - at times like these it seems more like a reaction than an overreaction. I have these of course, but it's too bad others won't have the chance. Good luck in bringing them back, GOG.

Every removed game from GOG is sad news. Especially if it's a groundbreaking game series like Descent.

Is there a thread I can bookmark that list all the removed games? And or those in risk of being removed?

Nothing concrete. As for assumptions, you could perhaps include The Void and licensed games like Race Driver: GRID. Oh, and possibly the Duke Nukem games.

Sad news.

Another piece of gaming history removed from sale over legal turmoil.

Here's hoping GoG can work this out and get the games back.

That's a pity for people who didn't get them. The Descent games would have been good to to try out with new controllers motion features like the steampad or dualshock 3/4 which have enough axis to properly control the ships.

GoG without Descent is nearly as bad as GoG without Fallout.
Hopefully this will get resolved faster.

drealmer7: I'm curious, I never played Descent 3, it never looked like it would be nearly as good as 1+2 so it always remained low priority for me. What do people here think about it compared to 1+2?
It's very good. Not as revolutionary as 1+2 but much more story-driven.

Sorry to hear about this. I bought these a long time ago now fortunately but I hope they can be returned for sale for other people.

I have come to feel over the years that whenever something important to me becomes available, I shouldn't waste too much time grabbing it once it hits a sale price I'm happy with just in case because these things do happen sometimes. I've been pretty lucky so far taking this approach although one time when I did get caught with my pants down when XIII was pulled, a very kind person gifted me a copy in the nick of time. That time we had a little warning beforehand though.

I missed XIII, Re-Volt and Colin McRae Rally completely and wonder if they ever will be in my library. :(

Re-volt... sure glad I bought that at the 2013 winter sale when it was dirt cheap.
