Didn't Parallax Software dissolve into Outrage (who made Descent 3) and Volition (who made Descent: Freespace 1&2)? I thought they did and Parallax was no more...

Apparently it didn't so much dissolve as the employees all left to do other things.

I pronounced it as gog even when it did stand for Good Old Games. Plenty of acronyms get pronounced as words rather than as individual letters.

I just looked at the thread on the Interplay forums about this and the mod denying the legal proceedings is hilarious. Dude, your company hasn't paid these guys since 2007 and you're trying to cover it up?

I just saw this kickstarter pop up and I'm wondering if this is related somehow to why the Parallax guys want to try to work things out with Interplay: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2010925172/overload-the-ultimate-six-degree-of-freedom-shoote/description

EDIT: Their website mentions the issue in the Q&A somewhat: "Parallax Software’s relationship with Interplay is, shall we say, complex. Revival Productions was started so there’d be a clean slate to develop Overload." So I guess they couldn't get the royalties? Or is that still ongoing?

That makes two spiritual successors for the Descent series. Wonder which will be better.
Still ongoing, I'd guess. Parallax Software have been considering legal action against Interplay.

There's actually 5 that I know of off-hand, but this and Underground are the two most "official".

Honestly, I'm not convinced either of them will be too great. Underground has made several serious design deicision errors, and this one looks like Descent 3 (which I personally was not a big fan of).

But we'll see lol :)


EDIT: I stand corrected. This looks FREAKING AWESOME! I'm really really sad that's it's singleplayer only (at least for now), but other than that I'm REALLY excited about it!

I would ask if they're still working out the Interplay thing but it's probably something they cannot talk about. I'm just worried that maybe they've decided to abandon trying to consult their legal team and D1-3 will be gone forever from digital platforms unless Night Dive steps in or something.
