UPDATE: Heads up! There are 24h left, so now is the time to take advantage of the amazing deals and upgrade your collections. Eyes on the price, Boo, eyes on the price!

Years ago, the Baldur's Gate series changed the way we look at gaming and the scope of what was considered possible. Even now, the legacy continues through the Enhanced Editions – thanks to the hard work and years of updates to keep the inimitable Infinity Engine living on.

It's the work on the Enhanced Editions that made Siege of Dragonspear possible – the just-released, massive expansion to the timeless classic, available only for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.

"The team at Beamdog was able to breathe a new life into the Infinity Engine classics." says Greg Tito, Communications Director for Dungeons & Dragons "We're proud to recognize their excellent work in offering the best possible experience and support for these legendary titles. We want these to become the definitive editions – featuring both the enhanced and classic versions of the games."

On April 29, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will be expanded to include the classic versions – each becoming the Definitive Edition Bundle and not available for purchase separately. If you already own the classics on GOG.com, the games currently on your shelf won't be affected.

"We're excited to take our commitment and support to Baldur's Gate and GOG fans to the next level and humbled to work with such great partners. The Definitive Edition Bundle will give every Baldur's Gate fan what they're looking for" – concludes Cameron Tofer, Beamdog COO.

In the near future, we're also looking forward to full GOG Galaxy support for achievements in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition – as well as in the Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear expansion.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will be 75% off until April 4 11:59 PM PDT / April 5 2:59 AM EDT/ 7:59 BST and 60% off until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 60% discount for Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 85% discount for owners of the original saga will last until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST.

SJW is just a better-known phrase for "regressive liberal", which is a very important stance to characterize in free speech discussions. There isn't really a way to remove that from internet vocabulary without censoring the topic completely, unless dtgreene would like to suggest another phrase with the same connotation.

Will the Siege of Dragonspear be included into this bundle or it will be possible to buy it separatly?

revanbh: Underhanded move by Beamdog and GOG.com. Forcing people to buy Enhanced Editions in order to access Classic versions of these games. Very disappointing.
avatar
hummer010: Hasbro owns Baldurs Gate. Neither Beamdog nor GOG can choose to bundle the originals.
avatar
tinyE: I love the new ones. :D
avatar
hummer010: Me too. I haven't played the originals since the EEs came out.
Either way, it is pretty low move. It's not that I don't like Enhanced Editions, I do. I'm having a blast playing through BG:EE right now, with the intention of exporting my character to SoD and BG2: EE. But having a choice is always better.

There is no mention that it will be included, so you'll have to buy it separately.

terriblegregory: Will the original versions and the new editions be available as separate downloads? I don't have the money to pick up the original versions of these games right now but I really want to play them and my PC can't run the new editions.
Everything so far indicates that, yes, they will be separate downloads (not purchases).

The term is actually a pejorative, just like the term "regressive" in the context that you are using it.

In fact, by definition, somebody can't be liberal and regressive. "regressive" really refers to a stance that is to the right of simple conservative; the textbook definition of "conservative" is one who doesn't want change, while "regressive" is more like "reactionary": those who want change rolled back.

In any case, I think there shouldn't be a term with those connotations used.

(By the way, if you are only mentioning, rather than using, a term, you should put it inside quotes:

I'm fairly certain in this context SJW / regressive liberal is used to describe reactionaries who pay lip service to progressivism and liberalism so they can use them as a shield while they push their own agendas (which are invariably neither progressive nor liberal).

Correct me if I'm wrong.
Yeah, that's the whole connotation: that you can't take a person seriously if they identify as progressive while trying to suppress freedom of expression, one of the most fragile rights in human history.

Accurate ones? :3

Not to appear as a whiny self righteous bastard but... owners of the original have to go trough buying the whole shit again to enjoy the "definitive" editions of those games then?

Meh...
In the last hours, here, I thought I'd repost this for anyone who missed it. I really can't see that anyone here would be against the classics being sold separately. Only Beamdog and, possibly, Hasbro benefit from this. I say possibly for Hasbro because I think there may be some backlash from people who don't want to pay extra for games they don't want just to get the ones they do (and no, not everyone who wants the classics has them yet - I tend to think GOG will have new customers in the future, lol).

ValamirCleaver: To those who have complained about the bundling of the games; has it occurred that it might be more proactive to directly contact the entity that in my opinion is most likely responsible for the decision, Wizards of the Coast and/or Hasbro?

plan99: I'm sure you're right about contacting... whoever (not GOG), but at the same time if GOG knows enough people are unhappy about it they might work to get the classics unbundled from the EEs. My thinking is that WotC, while OK-ing content, doesn't deal in video games, afaik, so Hasbro seems like the better choice, so far.

For anyone interested, here's some recently created (not by me) wishlist entries for the unbundling of the classics (it can't hurt):

https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/baldurs_gate_2_classic

Glad I already own the originals both the boxed and digital versions, (Save for IWD as I only have the digital copies) really dodged a bullet there...Though I already bought the EE versions during a sale, but yeah, good luck trying to hoodwink new BG fans, let alone any of your future titles here, at least...
Is this a typical GOG bug, because BG2:EE and IWD:EE appear to no longer be on sale? Maybe a blue can help restore them until the deadline.

EDIT: They're back. Thank you, to whomever restored them. Got them all!

Guess the sale ended early. Really the originals are so much better, the EE versions aren't playable to me. Wish I didn't own them. Too bad I can't transfer them over to you.

They're back and I just bought them. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy them.
I own the original Sets and to my eternal shame I have the exhanced Editions as well(Not Suck of Dragonspear phew).
And I also knew that would happen but still, HAHA.

So Beamdog or Hasbro, afraid that an over 10 year old game is competition to what you want to sell ?

Pathetic decision. Glad I already own the originals.
