UPDATE: Heads up! There are 24h left, so now is the time to take advantage of the amazing deals and upgrade your collections. Eyes on the price, Boo, eyes on the price!

Years ago, the Baldur's Gate series changed the way we look at gaming and the scope of what was considered possible. Even now, the legacy continues through the Enhanced Editions – thanks to the hard work and years of updates to keep the inimitable Infinity Engine living on.

It's the work on the Enhanced Editions that made Siege of Dragonspear possible – the just-released, massive expansion to the timeless classic, available only for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.

"The team at Beamdog was able to breathe a new life into the Infinity Engine classics." says Greg Tito, Communications Director for Dungeons & Dragons "We're proud to recognize their excellent work in offering the best possible experience and support for these legendary titles. We want these to become the definitive editions – featuring both the enhanced and classic versions of the games."

On April 29, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will be expanded to include the classic versions – each becoming the Definitive Edition Bundle and not available for purchase separately. If you already own the classics on GOG.com, the games currently on your shelf won't be affected.

"We're excited to take our commitment and support to Baldur's Gate and GOG fans to the next level and humbled to work with such great partners. The Definitive Edition Bundle will give every Baldur's Gate fan what they're looking for" – concludes Cameron Tofer, Beamdog COO.

In the near future, we're also looking forward to full GOG Galaxy support for achievements in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition – as well as in the Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear expansion.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will be 75% off until April 4 11:59 PM PDT / April 5 2:59 AM EDT/ 7:59 BST and 60% off until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 60% discount for Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 85% discount for owners of the original saga will last until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST.

Starmaker: Trust the old perv to completely miss the point of, like, everything.

Magic items which change a character's gender against their will isn't a feature, it's fucked up.
Temporarily presenting as another gender to "learn what it's like" is called "tourism" and is fucked up (also, completely different from the experience of a transgender person).
Forcibly changing someone's gender to teach them a lesson is fucked up.
Using traps which leave characters lol!nekkid! at conventions with strangers who in no way signed up for an erotically charged sexventure is fucked up.

Now, none if this applies to Siege of Dragonspear, but Greenwood isn't exactly the best person to vet the appropriateness of sexual content.
I don't think anyone's saying he's a judge of appropriateness. For one thing, the content that has everyone up in arms isn't sexual. They're just trying to remind all the angry jerks that yeah, this stuff has been in games for a long time, and getting up in arms about it now just looks foolish.

What's even more annoying and stupid is how it's taken over every BGEE forum. So if you just want to talk about or read about bgee, you have to wade through this stupid whining in every forum.

IKR? I was trying to find a real review, but all of them were complaining about one line with one character or slandering the artist. GOG reviews seem to be getting better, but I haven't worked up the energy to check Steam. I just went ahead and got the expansion.

I'm so sick and tired of angry jerks dominating the conversation whenever anyone tries to do different characters in a video game.
Makes me glad I picked up the Anthology Master Collection (BG, BG2, ID, ID2, PT, ToEE) on Gamersgate for $5. Not sure if it's discontinuted there though. The store page for it only shows up if I'm logged in. Regular price is/was $19.95.

I was hoping for another GoG DnD sale to pick up the big DnD bundle but have no interest in the Enhanced Editions. This new definite edition bundle stuff seems like a reason to increase the price and keep it higher. Would seem like a bad decision to only buy 3 titles "on sale" for $24 when the regular price for 6 titles was $20 (which I picked up for $5).

No. No, it hasn't, not in published products, and the people involved need to own up. There were forced sex changes (including in Baldur's Gate itself, played for laughs), there were men disguised as women (played for laughs), there were Tragic Characters whose Tragic Past included having been Raped By Evil Gay Pedos, there was dragon cock (note: dragon cock is not progressive; look at today's InDev release which promises unlimited shapeshifting but has a fixed male character). Oh and the Book of Vile Body Piercings. The first officially gay character in the pages of Dragon Magazine (that was in the Paizo era, specifically Nov 2002) was a criminal who owned child slaves. It took the death of D&D for gender and sex to be treated as anything other than a juvenile joke or creep fodder. This is a change, a welcome change, and grognards.txt don't get to take credit for it.

RIP medieval fantasy.
Is there anything wrong with having all of those things, so long as we also have carnivorous chauvinist demons, politically incorrect war-mongering orcs, multiple races of dragons and all-genders of undead?

It wouldn't be medieval fantasy though, or at least not in any vein similar to what we have today. And whats the value of escapist media if its just commentary on real world issues? I wouldn't buy such a depressingly political game.

That post of mine was a bit trollish, but.. probably yes for me.

Modern themes injected in medieval-like fantasy setting? Bleah!*
Also, such minorities would have never been perceived like normal in those times.
Maybe if someone managed to add them properly, in new games, without any hidden agendas.. I don't know..

*unless they're limited to some funny\weird game or part.
For example, it would perfectly fit Simon the Sorcerer.
Or a weird sidequest about some pacifist orc renegades.

Oh yeah, it's definitely a step forward from what there was before. But it's also not like this stuff has never happened in D&D products before, which is part of the complaints from the angry jerk brigade. They're trying to rewrite history so that D&D was pure *insert their fantasy here*.

Sounds more like «/rantmode» to be honest.
You think DRM-Free gaming is not enough and we need LGBT-Free gaming as well?

Parts of medieval Europe were less sexist than parts of the current US. Look into Norse and Celt social structures, they're fascinating. 'Modern' themes like workers rights were the flashpoint for massive religious and cultural wars across Europe. Racial minorities were more accepted than you might think, depending on the time period and place.

History is weirder than modern fantasy has the courage to show. So much of 'historical' fantasy really relies on Tolkien's works, which were basically 'Catholic, British, Catholic, everyone is Catholic and British' and not reflective of the wide range of mythology and historical societies that actually existed.

ETA: I now really, really want a game where I can play a pacifist orc teaming up with a vegan demon to take down the patriarchy. That would be hilarious. Oh, make it a Dungeon Keeper sequel, where the minions are rebelling, led by one of those torturers who wants to have pants she can sit down in! LOL

It was a bit trollish, because actually I'm not against possible new games that included that.
Probably they wouldn't just be for me, but it's ok if others could enjoy them.

BUT, don't touch my old classics! :P
(and their franchises)

So, you don't need new games without LGBT stuff? :P
