I have Windows 7 and a nvidia 7600 GT card, which is about ten years old. I'm in debt and shouldn't waste the money on a card, but I want to get one anyways.

Any suggestions for something around $50 USD? Any sites to focus on? I got my card from Newegg, but that was a long time ago.

With that money, you should focus on Craigslist or similar sites (used goods), you can get a Radeon R7 360 for around that price. Depending on your Powersupply, you will need to choose between models which need the 6 pin power connector or ones which doesn't.

How about since you're in the US you use http://www.bing.com/explore/rewards and save up Amazon store gift cards? That's $100 a year if you have an android device and can do the mobile searches too. Otherwise it's $60 just from your desktop. That way your graphics card upgrade is free.

The whole problem with debt is that you keep on spending money for stuff, including money you don't even have yet. You need to stop seeing things as "I need it now and I'll pay someone back later". Whether it's student loans, mortgages, cars, it's just a stupid system to get trapped into.

Then don't. That's my suggestion.

Years ago I got myself some rules to keep things in perspective. I've said this in other threads, so here it goes. Hopefully I'm remembering it right, it was like 4 rules.

1) If I don't have the money, don't get it.
2) If I don't NEED it, don't get it.
3) If I don't have an immediate need/plans for it, don't get it
4) If I already have something that does the job, don't get it.

Something like that. It's a set of rules I put for myself when I was in the army, in Korea, where I'd hear of others getting a paycheck and coming back 2 days later with nothing to show for their money and no idea where it went. Following the rules I easily had $2,000 in the bank, never went under that, and no debts.

Learn to manage your money. Debt is easy to get out of control, and unable to keep track of or even make payments on.

You're in debt. Get out first, and then we can discuss my Nvidia 210 I picked up for under 20 USD.

Try to get a gtx 750 for cheap. Maybe 2nd hand. Will be a massive improvement. While almost all will be better than yours not everything more modern will. A gt210 or gt710 for example while in you price range are weaker then your 7600 afaik.

Thanks for the financial advice guys, but it's not like I'm blowing checks on coke and hookers. I work part time in a min wage job, so the issue isn't spending, it's income. ALL my money goes to rent, utilities and car maintenance, with gvmt assistance to help with food. I don't pay for phone or tv or anything else, and I never go out at all. My only luxury is internet, with video games for entertainment. And as I mentioned, my card is ten years old, so It's not like I just want the latest toy.

My life is nothing but scrimping, so the card is a treat for myself. Thanks Enigma, I'll check out craigslist, and thanks MB, I'll look at the Bing offer.

Sounds like where i was 12 years ago... making $600 on a good month. Save $20-$50 a month maybe, and when i had enough maybe splurge on a couple used games...

Does your motherboard even support the graphic card you want?

AGP. If it doesn't have PCIe, it should have AGP. It would have to be a very low end motherboard not to have a AGP.


Though a quick Google on 7600gt shows its PCIe.
