I know this is going to be a Playstation 4 Exclusive (I don't own a PS4.) but I'm intrigued by this regardless.

What I really want to know is what kind of game this will be. Will there be prominent psychological horror aspects? Will it be similar in gameplay to the latest Metal Gear Solid, the cancelled Silent Hills, or something completely new (if that's even possible)? Will we see it before 2027?

What are your thoughts on these trailers, the game, Kojima and anything related?

That trailer leaves me saying, "What the hell did I just watch?" every time I see it!

I thought it was announced when Hideo Kojima signed with Sony that his next game (which would turn out to be Death Stranding) would be coming to the PC sometime after the PS4 release... I know for a fact that the Metal Gear Solid games are not for me.

1. The games are stealth games, and I *hate* it when stealth appears in other games, particularly its implementation in Zelda games (starting with Ocarina of Time) where it's functionally equivalent to having to avoid invisible instant death bullets. (I would hope that the stealth sequences in the Metal Gear Solid are done better since they're the focus of the game, but I am still not interested in playing a game focused on something I dislike in other games.)

2. The games are story heavy, with lots of unskippable non-interactive cutscenes. This is the sort of thing that turned me off of modern Final Fantasy games (starting with FF6, but getting worse in FF7).

Hence, unless the game is *very* different (as in, isn't even the same type of game) and, of course, is released DRM-free, I will not be getting it.

(I haven't actually played any of the Metal Gear Solid games, for the record.)

Sorry no idea about the game...

...but I find it interesting how it has apparently become more and more commonplace to use faces of real actors in computer generated trailers and such, even when the game isn't related to any movie or TV series where that actor might be present (e.g. a Walking Dead game, not surprised it would reuse imaginery and faces from the TV series).

Is there some benefit to using the real faces other than "because we can", and do the famous voice actors get some extra payment for using their face too? Maybe it is for marketing reasons, so that people instantly know what big-name actor is behind which voice?

I think they use actual face capturing technology for some of these games, so the in-game characters are literally played by real actors. Motion capturing has been a standard in 3D games for a long time, but facial capturing for games is still relatively new I think, now that hardware can render more realistic facial expressions and details in real-time.

The main idea is to create more lifelike and natural characters, especially in story and cut-scene heavy games. But of course popular actors also help boost sales.

Oh right another thing from that Kojima guy.

On topic: I don't really understand the hype at this point. I like Kojima's work, and I'm glad he's still making new games, and if it comes to PC I'll likely buy a copy. But so far those trailers only reveal that Kojima is working on a new game, and that it will be vaguely similar to some of his previous work. We have no facts regarding the actual gameplay, so I figure it's best to wait and see.

Hype comes from the fact that Kojima is considered some sort of genius games designer/storyteller and everything he touches turns into gold[which he never was...and never will be]

I'm not a bin fan of Kojima's weird games, nor I use consoles, but:
- the trailer looks cool
- Mads Mikkelsen!
- this is a big FU to Konami XD

While I do like the original MGS a lot, I never found myself particularly interested in the other ones (though I am playing through MGR, which isn't a Kojima game). Kojima usually starts from simple popular concepts and over-exaggerates from there on and I find it a bit overwhelming and frequently tiring.

My impression so far is that Death Stranding will probably mix MGS5 gameplay with Silent Hill horror, but frankly, it didn't quite capture my interest that much.

But I'm not much of an Horror fan, so, there's that.

That's up for debate. But regardless, he does have a very distinct, unique style, which elevates his games above the flood of generic AAA Action releases. I'm definitely interested in this latest project of his, but it's too early to get excited about it. Do they even have any kind of estimated release date?

It's a nice touch, because then the game feels like an interactive movie\series.

Like Charles said, the benefit of the face scanning technology is most likely the added realism.

I personally think money spent on hiring out famous actors for these roles would benefit the game more if it was spent hiring more people to work on aspects directly related to the game (artists, programmers etc.), or paying the people already working on it more, or anything else involving the actual making of the game. Although I honestly didn't recognize any of the actors in the trailers. Yeah, got no clue what's happening either, and it makes me want to play the game even more!

If it does come to PC I would really be glad, and I'll probably have a gaming desktop, as opposed to my surprisingly powerful laptop by the time it's finished.

I'm not really expecting to play it at all, since I have no plans to buy a PS4, and it seems a PC release is not guaranteed at this point. On the plus side, since his games are so cut-scene heavy, you don't miss out on much if you simply watch a LetsPlay. XD

I don't know, seems like people are setting themselves up for disappointment, if they get hyped up already. I think there's a good chance that it will be a good game, though, at least for fans of Kojima's work. He's got something to prove, after his break-up with Konami. And Sony will probably grant him a lot of creative freedom on this project.
That's just the trend of the AAA gaming industry -- everything has to be bigger and "better" than previous releases. Full orchestral scores, famous actors/VAs, huge open game worlds, photo-realistic graphics, long FMV sequences... Even CDPR hired famous actors such as Charles Dance for Witcher 3.

Some of these elements can benefit certain types of games, but I'm not sure it's worth the bloated budgets and the negative side effects that come with that.

I can appreciate all the bells and whistles, but I think games need to be entertaining to play, first and foremost. And often low-res pixel graphics, or blocky polygon characters are enough to achieve that goal.
