Not complaints here, but I'm more tolerant of download speeds. I'm probably less impatient because I can still remember the pain of my dial-up days.

My collection downloads at acceptable speeds to suit my timetable. And I enjoy the broken 4gb files so I can be sure they all checksum out fine as I go, and random disconnects are a disappointment, not a devastating loss.

pds41: Isn't the installer >40GB? I mean, you've probably got gigabit internet or something like that, but 3 hours for a game that size doesn't seem unacceptable to me.
A product of modern society. If it's not "instant" it's an inconvenience.

Why not. If you've learned how long it takes to walk the distance, you appreciate a bicycle all the more.

Besides, I'm not that old. I just had dial-up longer than most people did.

EverNightX: Dear jcalberta,

I find your over use of capital letters unacceptable. I have been viewing your posts for years. Lately however there are too many capital letters. It's become untenable

Over 10 words all in caps. I could likely view a post from another user and easily find less that 5 words all in capitals.

Let me state plainly to you in a way you can understand: WRITING IN ALL CAPS MAKES YOU LOOK 4 YEARS OLD.
You will lose views, respect, (starting with me) and eventually the use of your Shift and or Caps Lock keys.
Relax please

Whats next?
Unaccept someone like me
that writes in almost columns,
omit periods & apostrophes in bulk
& curses as often as possible?
-My happy deliberate will :)-

IF the ultimate goal of writing
is to comunicate,
WTF are so critical those ,,rules,,?
Let me insist: Relax

Netiquette...
Provide fairness about anonymity first,
then we can worry about small details
like if XD is passive aggressiveness or not. Seriously

Loss of respect (of you) would be me assuming
you dont fully understand my post
because the lack of some symbols...
See? What a st*pid situation

OR I should get some medal
because I over respect you
assuming you dont need all those symbols
to fully understand me...
(Which I really believe, by the way)

I propose:
Lets set aside the st*pid fluff
& worry about talking
This is a worldwide forum
Just let language on a messageboard devolve until no one can understand anyone else and then get offended over that? Okay. What do we do at that point? Google can't translate illiteracy.

Nahmeen, breh? Aw yaw nd uh lrn hw uh typ n sht. Ain no 1 gt tahm fo dt brkn anglsh. Whirred 2 yer mutha's uncle. Ah'm Audi fi' THOWzun. *hugs self*

Anyway, I never said my download times are unacceptable but I do think it's a little suspicious that downloading is faster with Galaxy than it is from the website.

I get 19MiB per second on GOG, which is the maximum my connection can do, no reason to complain-

CarChris: I don't mind the time spent for a download, what I do mind is (as I've seen stated by others in different threads) the downloads "broken in pieces". That is I would prefer if all files in a game were in a single file and not in 4GB files. This way I could leave the PC downloading all night for the bigger games and not having to wait until each of the 4GB files completes, to manually start the next.
My speed is 18 minutes for a 4GB file, so waiting to download even a handful of these, is really a chore.
Why not use a download manager?

There are several ways to avoid that "problem".

The poster before me already mentioned download managers. You could use Galaxy (extras-section of the game) for that or one of the scripts provided in this forum, lgogdownloader or gogrepoc (that's the one I use).

The files are "small" for technical reasons. Bigger files have the problem that they don't fit every file system. Some older ones only support files up to 4GB, that's why thes files are slightly smalle than that. When burning to DVD or Blu-Ray one might have to use a format that can't be read by older systems.
Also if a file is corrupted, you only have to redownload that one file and not the entire game.

ssling: HZD has neither Linux nor Mac build. Same as majority games at GOG. How is that alternative in this scenario?
It was a joke, which should have been obvious. I mean, it's true, Mac/Linux downloads have only one part regardless of size, but c'mon, nobody's going to switch platforms based on that. The actual point of my post is what I wrote first, that you can use Galaxy as an offline installer downloader and not have to concern yourself with multiple parts.

God yes - I remember downloading a 100mb file on dial-up once. Took about 14 hours from what I remember. Worst thing was the first time the connection dropped at the 80mb mark.

DoomSooth: I do think it's a little suspicious that downloading is faster with Galaxy than it is from the website.
Actually, I'd be surprised were it the other way round. I always assume that clients use parallelisation when downloading to maximise the transfer speed (e.g. pick this part from this server, another part from the same server and a third part from a different server and pull them all in at once). I think it's similar to how download managers work. You can get some of the benefit by downloading two or three files at once from the site (anecdotally, I seem to get files fastest overall from GoG when downloading three at once but as I usually don't need something that quickly, I haven't ever checked this to make sure)

jcalberta: Dear GOG,

I've been using your services for YEARS. It's been great. Lately however, your DOWNLOAD TIMES
have become interminable. LOOOOOOONG. UNACCEPTABLY LONG.
Over 3 hours to download Horizon Zero Dawn. I can likely get that downloaded
on Steam in less than 20 minutes.
Let me state this plainly: YOU WILL LOSE CUSTOMERS If you don't fix this.
Starting with me.
I only have 100Mbps connection here so I dont saturate gog server speed (yay australia. cant get better in an apartment here)

what speeds do you get. cause 3h for HZD is 200Mbps dl speed.

so to download HZD in 20 min you need a 2 Gigabit connection.
https://www.bell.ca/Bell_Internet/Products/Fibe-Internet-Gigabit15-FTTH

is one i fouind but it is only 1.5 so wont do HZD in 20 min.

Both sons of Justice? XD

Anyway, FIUUU**!
Me another day surviving then...
Thanks for your will to interact
& I hope we are ok then
Back to the topic:

OP: Take a look of this thread
gog.com/forum/general/cdnhwgogcom_is_damn_slow_about_2_kbs
Provides links to testing files
& seems the speed thing is CDN related
I hope it helps to pinpoint something

**= Onomatopoeia in Spanish
The equivalent in English I can think of: *sigh*
Not exactly the same, but helpful enough

I am not so sure that these numbers are correct. Here's some rough values

73GiB / (3*3600 sec) = ~6.9MiB / sec = 55 Mbit Conection
73GiB / 1200 sec = ~63.3 MiB / sec = 498 Mbit Connection

With my 180 Mbit connection it would take a bit over an hour.

Still ... the OP might not have the fastest connection to the GOG servers if he has a 500 MBit line and only gets up to 60 from GOG. The ranting about them losing customers because of that is nonsense however.
