i loaded might and magic 6. played it for a day. went to play it today. it wasn't there. i restarted launcher. so tried to reinstall game. won't work. i deleted the file. still would work. restarted computer. tried installing game. it worked.

now when i start game. it goes to blank screen. DDraw > setdisplaymode{} failed comes up.

Reading the error message I would say that a unsupported graphic mode has been set. Check your game's configuration files.

But also try to use a modern ddraw wrapper.


DirectDraw has been drastically changed over the years, old games might have problems with new graphic drivers.

But there are solutions. Downlaod the latest version of DGVoodoo2 here:

Copy the file MS\x86\DDraw.dll to the same directory where the game's .exe file is located. That should do the trick.
Maybe copy D3D8.dll as well.

Edit: Note. There are also other ddraw wrappers around, but I always use the one from this site if necessary. Works for me.

the game worked a couple days back. i downloaded a couple other might and magic games.no problem with graphic drivers.

the game disappeared from my installed games on luancher. had to unistalled and reinstall.

Virus protection? Try exempting the game folder from AV.

magic 5 and 7 work. it not a graphic card issue or anti virus software.

i downloaded and played the game. no issues.

a few days later i went to play the game. i wasn't on my installed list on luancher. i clicked installed. i won't installed. i deleted the might and magic 6 folder. restarted computer. reinstalled game. game started but i get a blank screen now and the spinning symbol.

hoping skipping the intro video will help. anyone able to give a little more help on were to find it in might and magic folder?

Perhaps the anti-virus picked up a file or two on the down-low. Check its logs and quarantine, if you have one installed that is.

If something doesn't work after a shutdown/restart, then either the shutdown/restart incorrectly reset some variables or your previous session was running under corrupt/faulty settings. The restart may have misplaced some files or references to some files and it was unable to find them afterwards.

If you can understand them, event logs of your sessions before and after this issue should have some information in the case that this is a system error.

Or dosbox, presuming that's what is being used to run the game in question, has some file issues and should be cleaned fully from your PC before trying to make use of it once more in a default state.
